Back in the mid-90s my father picked up this car and was in the process of street-rodding it. A little bit later he found stock 1938 that could be a daily driver (1.5 mile commute helps).  It went on the back-burner and when he passed away it stayed on the back-burner.

Please share it if you know anyone is looking for a good starting foundation for a late 30's rebuild.

Welcome to the forum Scott!

Oh Mitch...... where are you?  This looks right up your alley, and it's not a FERD!  stirpot

Welcome Scott.

Not really anything I'm interested in.

Just a note on the ad, there are no pics of the frame. Is the running gear gone ? Is the frame a roller or just bare ?

The tag on the body is a build tag. The VIN tag would have been above that, held on by 2 screws. Most of the silkscreen will be gone, but there would be numbers and letters stamped in. They could be used to get a title. If that is gone, it will need a state assigned VIN and title.

Mitch is so right. Having clean paperwork will really help it sell. Honestly, you're asking a pretty high price for what you're selling. The metal looks clean, which is great, but without any drivetrain or suspension or interior, it's just a shell...and without paperwork, it's a sketchy purchase for even an experienced car builder to take on. I wouldn't offer much more than half of what you're asking, considering all of the work til take to even get it moved, let alone chase the title and hope it doesn't present any issues. It's not a coupe but it is a 2-door. There is potential, certainly, but....man, that's a lot of work and money to get it on the road.

Welcome to the club! I didn't mean to make this my introduction to you, but one thing you'll learn about this club is that everyone is honest about car stuff - especially with each other. We help each other find good deals and share advice, and I wish you the best of luck in both selling this project and investing more into your Chevelle!

Thanks for the replies and advice.

I don't know if anyone here is active on the Northstars Camaro forum, but I would appreciate a bump there. I hate to be a spammer in forums that I don't participate.

There is a Vin tag above the build tag. It was just impossible to get a photo that is actually readable so I didn't include it.

The price was hard to get any basis to start. It seems the market is either someone's complicated projects they are burned out on for 6-8k or some rusted out complete car that been sitting out in a farm field for 50 years at 1k. I tried to find a happy medium. The one thing with CL is I can always move down if I don't get any interest. Much easier to negotiate down than up as the seller. That being said i'm ready to move it so I can actually get the Chevelle on the road before the summer's over. I'll probably mark the ad down quite a bit if I don't get any bites. If anyone on this forum wants to make a real cash offer don't hesitate to send me a PM I'll be happy to sell it cheaper to a Chevelle guy.

Mitch: I tried to get some pictures of the frame but it's in a old dark storage garage without much sunlight or space to work around. I tried to get a pic from under the frame but it the results weren't wide enough and too dark. The pics wouldn't clarify anything, best to see in person. My uncle states that were were some shorter leaf springs put away for the rebuild, but since they weren't from the '39 I didn't feel like adding them in the auction. He also told me the rebuild was probably going to use a 9" Ford rear, but again all this planning took place over 20 years ago and I couldn't tell you without guessing. At this point the frame is and even the stand it's been for 20 years is no longer mobile.
