My bride and I went to St Augustine FL for 5 days to escape from the cold. It wasn't their usual weather either but 70's is a LOT better than 0. We visited downtown and most of the little shops in the centuries old buildings. Most of the town is on the National Historical Registry dating back into the 1700's. It is the oldest, continually inhabited, city in America. The town existed before that but not many of the original buildings survived fires and natural decay of wood. The actual location dates to the 1400's and it was a Spanish colony for over 200 years before it came into being part of America. The current buildings were constructed of compressed sea shells. No kidding. They cut blocks out of them and they are still standing to this day.

Close up of a coquina wall. The shells were compressed over millions of years and mixed with lime from the ocean.

OLD cemetery.

Ocean shore outside our hotel at low tide.

My bride wading in the Atlantic.

Our rental car on the beach road...nana

We just got back from a couple of weeks in Honolulu Tuesday. Record lows when we were there, but still in the 60's at night and 77-80 by day. Should have stayed when I had a chance.banghead Have to see if I can find a few pictures.

Dan, I was VERY reluctant to leave FL.

I would much rather have headed to "The Conch Republic" and stayed there until April...thumbsup
