WANTED machine shop with radial grinder
Permalink

I'm looking to get a transmission input shaft turned down to a smaller diameter. It can't be turned down on a lathe because it's hardened. I've checked with a couple of shops here in Mankato and neither said they could do it and that I needed to find a shop that had a radial grinder. I also check with one in Owatonna and he said I'd probably have to go to the cities. So does anyone know of a shop that could do this? I'd prefer something on the south side, but it's starting to look like I can't be too picky.

Steve,

I found these guys in Minneapolis on the interweb, and it looks like they could help you with either cylindrical or radius grinding processes to remove the material you are describing:  http://www.minnesotagrinding.com/capabilities

I'm guessing it won't be cheap though...

Maybe try Crankshaft Supply in Mpls... Yeah, they're dedicated to regrinding cranks, but they've probably got a machine & guy that knows more than "plug & play"...

Thanks for the replys. I'll have to give them both a call on Monday.

I talked to an "old timer" at one shop here in town and he said he had a radial grinder "back in the day" but didn't get much call for it's use, so he sold it.
