As part of a planned upgrade we will be removing an oil burning furnace and replacing it with a natural gas unit. I’m looking at 75,000 BTU dual stage burner with a variable speed blower and a 2.5 ton AC unit with the highest available SEER rating.

Any guesstimate on an installed price?

12-15k depending on name brand. 75,000 might be too small for the new mansion.
We had all new furnace and A/C installed 7 years ago and it was 10k then.

how did you come up with 75,000 buts should have a heat loss heat gain known as manual j done so you know what size you need. a trane or lenox would be dealer cost for furnace around $1500 most likely the same for ac then you want a modern 4 inch wide filter. you most likely are running r22 refrig so you would need those copper lines replaced. do you have a easy way to get two inch pvc out of the house and a floor drain near the furnace. where i work which on the high side would be around twelve grand i think haven't worked since june can't believe they haven't gone up to much. but they are going to mark it up if the the pvc or copper lines are a nightmare. do you have gas in the house now? i didn't see that highest seer. that could run some high bucks.  i think most people are looking for 17 seer but they go into the twenties. sometimes to get way up their on seer you need that 30 inch tall coil do you have plenty of ceiling height in basement. let the figure out ac size if its to big thats as bad as to small

I am happy to say the heat and AC system came in under budget. We installed a Trane XV95 with a 16.5 SEER rating AC unit. The install included running new black pipe into the basement with drops for a future gas hot water heater, fireplace, dryer, kitchen appliances and a line going out to the new addition. It also included fair amount of sheet metal fabrication and installing one new duct and vent as well as disposal of all the old stuff. The bill came to $8500.00 the service was first rate and very professional.

Frank you were right about the coils, they required some sheet metal fabrication and the condensing unit is huge.

The cost did not include the cost of running a gas line from the street 480 feet to the house. I’m glad we did it when we did, the cost of fuel oil is going up and they are currently rationing propane here.

LP just shot up to over $3.70/gal

We contracted 1000 gal at $1.30 this fall, but it's not going to be enough this year.

Yup... turned the heat off in the big shop, and set the house at 65deg.

It's going to be a long winter. rant2

How much is a cord of wood?

I'm thinking of something like this as an auxiliary heat source for the shop. I seem to have an endless supply of wood falling out of trees and I always wanted one for wood working shop for scrap.

D, are you still using your pellet burner in the smaller shop?

Yeah, I'm still running pellets in the small garage. That thing is burning through wood like it grows on trees.dunno

I burned 60 bags total last year, and already burned up 40 so far this year. I bought another 50 so I'll be good there. Worst case scenario with the LP shortage = we can live in the shop.

Gov. Dayton declared a state-of-emergency and called in the DHS... not sure what Propane has to do with "Homeland Security" though. headscratch

DHS will take excess propane from the rich and give it to the welfare recipients. Wouldn't want the majority voters unhappy with the regime...tsktsk

N.S... "Ooohhh - there's a high demand & possible shortage... we won't be able to supply all of our SUBSIDIZED freeloader customers with what we promised them" (they won't vote for us next term!).

Now don't make me out as a Grinch.
There are people out there that need help... specifically the elderly, disabled & those on fixed or retirement income (my mother included!).

I'm P.O'd at the able-bodied sponges that have been sucking off the welfare teat for generations. Imgonna

(The difference is my Mom worked, saved, invested, payed taxes, and PLANNED. She has a budget, has an emergency fund (for household disasters), etc., but when her energy bill quadruples this gets thrown out the window. Funds planned for other things will be used to heat the damn house.) rant2

oh, I forgot to mention I was at my favorite "Section 8" high-rise today, in the office, overhearing numerous conversations about "how bad my (FREE/CUT-RATE downtown high-rise which would be worth $1500mo in the private market) apartment is...

John you’ll be happy to know that the State of Minnesota spent $110,000,000.00 million last year to help heat about 163,000 homes.

Dayton’s statement is simply hyperbole intended to be suck in by foolish listeners.

Of course you are paying for his trip to the Super Bowl. Where getting a little political here, but that’s why I moved out of the state.

The gov cancelled his super bowl trip due to the propane situation.  Not sure how that will help?  headscratch

It was an easy way out of the future "Oh Sh*t, someone was paying attention and I got caught in the cookie jar" explanation... just spin-doctor it into "I'm not going because my constituants are having trouble paying for energy... ain't I a great guy?"
