If it's not one thing it's another?

Well figured out my ignition issue that wouldn't allow me to go past 4000 RPM. Turned out to be major signs of carbon tracking inside the distributor cap.  Changed out the distributor to a MSD Streetfire, and runs good now.  So then I moved on to trying to get the shift points dialed in on my 200-4R.  I had noticed that it was starting out in 2nd gear all the time.  So I took it out for some runs to see where it shifts. After several adjustments and tearing up the back roads, I decided to move to another road so locals didn't call the cops on me. Turned a corner and hear a belt squealing sound, smelt burning belt, Burt noticed my charging gauge needle was not visible?  Made one more adjustment and saw the alternator pulley was discolored?  Went home and checked voltage at battery.  17.7v, looks like time for a voltage regulator now?

At least you were close to home. Sounds like the alternator found 'high gear'.

That would be Newton’s third law. “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

Unless you’re doing a LS conversion, then for every action there are two to three opposite and opposing reactions.

That would be Newton reminding you that you should've put a vintage 340/200r4 in there and been done with it....razz

Loren, hoefully you didn't run it long enough to cook the battery too.

I don't believe I ran it too long.  Was only about 2 miles from home, and went straight there once I determined the issue?

Are you running a sold state VR?  I have one installed in the old AC-Delco  cover.
