Came back to Nebraska for a grad party and to check out the Hot Rod Super Nationals in Lincoln. It rained most of yesterday morning, and it just happened that a Camaro buddy of mine's engine builder called him Friday afternoon and said he had his 383 ready to dyno. So, my buddy and I went to breakfast at the local cafe to sit out the rain, and he sheepishly says... "I have something else we can do if you want to skip the car show this morning...", and he dropped the dyno idea. Needless to say, I'd much rather make some noise than look at pretty cars all day, so off to the dyno we went.
I'm familiar with this engine builder from when I lived in Lincoln before, and he's well known in the circle track world. His shop is called Spanel Engines. Typical good engine builder with an extremely clean and well organized shop.
So, he had already loaded the engine on the dyno and made 1 pull the afternoon before, which made the rest of the pulls a piece of cake. It's a 383 that was running 13.5:1 so new AFR 75cc heads were put on to lower the compression to make it pump gas friendly. It already had a mild solid roller lifters and a roller cam, so that was re-used.
The numbers shook out on pump gas at 479 ft. lbs. of torque at 4500 RPM, and 450 hp at 5500 RPM. High test fuel actually lowered the numbers a couple on each, so this will be a NICE little street engine. It's goiing into his '68 Camaro, and he hopes to drive it up to Car Craft, so I'm hoping he makes it!
My original plan was to drive the vert to the HRSN's, but obviously not there yet, so it was a great day to be at the dyno!

Just got back from the Hot Rod Super Nationals. Not a huge turnout this morning due to potential rain, but it was starting to fill up when I left. Saw a few cool cars, but not a lot there.
Not a GM product, but cool anyway:
And if anyone remembers the GTO they built on Muscle Car TV, someone in Lincoln has it now:
And what I think will probably be Best Of Show is a cool '70 modified Malibu that came from Iowa. Pretty cool father/son team, and the son did all the interior and has his own interior business. He went to Wyotech in Wyoming, and it was cool to talk to him and see the next generation being excited about muscle cars and hot rods!
I gave them a club card, so who knows... maybe we will see them at Car Craft.
