Here's the initial flier that was submitted to the Council of Car Clubs.

As I mentioned, there's a few bigger changes we are working on, starting with our food vendors. We already have a few feelers out and I will discuss more when we have something in place.

The group seemed receptive to establishing a charitable aspect to the show. In the past, we have received some nice donations from businesses and instead of those being a door prize-by-drawing, we are going to change that format to a raffle. Each entrant would get one 2-piece ticket, they put one part into a jar/box/container corresponding to the item they want and a drawing for each will be done at the end of the show. There will be a cash buy-in for additional tickets. All proceeds from this would go to a yet to be determined charity. I am starting to look into those as well. That means we will still need donations from companies. They can be gift certificates, hats, shirts, merchandise, or even just cash donations to go straight towards the charity.

We have some feelers out for a model car club or business to host a model car contest within our show.

We are still looking for a couple major sponsors so if I could ask everyone to keep their eyes and ears open to possibilities. It's easy to ask them if they have ever considered helping sponsor a show. Their money will get them space within the show for a display/cars/whatever, thier name on a couple thousand fliers (already targeted to car people!), thier name on the digitized flier that will be on the web, plus all the word of mouth. Don't forget that we will provide a trophy with thier name on it which they get award at the show to a winner of thier chioice (or they select and I present with the others). How much will it cost? $250. There is a deadline though so we can get to flier distribution at the local cruises.

Update: I'm excited to announce that we have signed commitments from 2 food vendors:
http://www.jellybeanandjulias.com/
http://www.gpconcessions.com/

Both are experienced in the car show scene (they are at Anoka every Saturday), and thier menus will be coordinated specifically for our show. I am excited to have them on board.

I have another sponsor lined up. I don't want to say until it's confirmed/paid, but several members have been to his shop, and we are working on a really cool twist/attraction if it can all work out.

Please help me find some more sponsors! We've lost a couple sponsors from the apst 2 years since thier businesses are closed, so we need to get working on replacing them. Here's the deal:

$200 gets them on all fliers printed after thier paiment is done (figure a couple thousand for the whole show are made up), mentions on the show's facebook page, vendor space for whatever they need, we can include commercials by the DJ, and it includes a trophy thier name on it and they can do the presentation of it themselves at the show (or I can do it).

Bryan, do you know if that guy from New Brighton coming down to sell the framed artwork again? There might be another guy on this side of the cities that does that same business and has a studio he sells out of, but he also sets up at several car shows too. I don't know the guy personally though. He runs Past Gas Car Art in Spring Lake Park. Just trying think of anyone that would be interested in becoming an advertiser.

Yeah, Past Gas is just up the road about a mile from Friendly. I contacted them last year and he was kinda cold to the idea but I will try again. I already have had the picture guy from last year contact me.

Go with the guy that contacted you then. I actually bought a framed print from him not long after the show. Actually, my wife did and suprised me with it the following Christmas but still. Good seller.

UPDATE:

T.P.i.S. has committed to bringing their chassis dyno up for the show. This is Weather Permitting, of course. It will be $50 cash for 2 pulls. It's the axle/hub mounted style, not a strap down style. Go ahead and spread the word.

I hope they plan to put it a long way from the show cars. That is just a noisy detraction to me...2cents

Come on man, I already have thought that through. It will be placed along the wall of the building and the cars running will have the exhaust vent tubing to help direct the sound away.

Big thanks to Bryan again for coordinating all the things needed to pull off the 3rd annual Automania!

Thanks to all the club members that helped as well!

It turned out to be a great day and a solid turnout with over 100 cars, which is great since there were a couple of other larger shows that the participants could have gone to instead.  I met a number of great people and saw some awesome cars that I've not seen before.

The trip home was interesting since the ramp to 694 east was closed and the detour on 694 west was a total parking lot either due to the traffic or an accident (lots of blue lights on the ramp...), so gps took us through NE Minneapolis, then just as we got over the I35W bridge, it started raining so we had to pull off and quickly put the top up.  Of course, it didn't rain much after that, but got the vert home without any furher incidents.

Member Tom Blad took a number of pics, and I have the SD card, but found out my older laptop doesn't have an SD port, so I'll get them loaded to the website soon.  Otherwise, here's a few I took with my cell phone:

Thank You to everyone who helped in one aspect or another, from flyer distribution at the local cruises to helping with goodie bags to moving cars to manning the registration tables (!!!), parking cars, hanging banners, putting up signs, ferrying stuff and people back and forth, helping with the dyno power supply issue, garbages before and after, getting the word out in general and of course taking pictures. If I missed something, I apologize.

I know Chad took a ton of pictures, we both went up onto the roof for some better shots. I can't see yours from work Stan (blocked site), but thank you for taking them. JohnD has a way to get them into a mass storage file where we can pool them all together to get on the website and newsletters, etc.

I think the show went very well, no major catastrophes. I have already heard from almost a dozen people that the weather was a factor in them not bringing out a car. That's fine, it is a lot of cleanup work afterward and I'll leave it at that. I also know of several major mechanical issues that prevented cars from coming out including our own DavenSonS who lost a tranny on the way home from moving cars Saturday. They did bring out thier Camaro Sunday though.

The 2 things we can't completely control are the weather and people attending other shows. There was another show in Mounds View at the Mermaid which is only a couple miles away, plus Stockyard Days in New Brighton had a car show. There was another one farther north of us too.

Steve, I know you were sitting facing the HWY, did you see who left the set of really wide parallel lines on the side street? gearbangerlaughing
