impromptu meeting this weekend to look at chevelles

Ok I called and talked with him and he agreed to letting us coming up and check out his cars. I set it up with him for Saturday at 11:00. This is the address to his shop and his web site:

He very specifically asked that there is no picking apart these cars for not being original. He built these cars the way that he wanted them and not to be 100 point restorations. I don't want to make him mad and get kicked out of his shop. So unless it is a comment to say sweet car keep it to yourself.

There seems to be some interest in going to look at the chevelles for sale by LeRoy Nelson up in bethel area. I know him a little and was going to call him today to see if would entertain the idea of letting us come up and check out his cars and shop. I am wanting to know if others are available this weekend to do this before I take the time to call him and set it up.

In talking with him he has a 66 on the rotisserie that he is doing right now. He said he just finished a 72 but I did not ask convert or coupe. So it sounds like there should be all kinds of stuff to look at.

I was thinking of running up to Corvette Specialites for the farewill Chili Feed that day. I wonder how late that goes ?  I could stop on the way back from Isanti...dunno

This was a VERY worthwhile visit !!!  These cars aren't show quality but very nice drivers that he built. He also SOLD them yesterday to a guy who came up from OK and wrote him a check and said he would send a truck.

Aside from the cars, Leroy is a very nice person who is easy to talk with and has a lot of parts he's willing to sell. Well, he has a few less as Jim, Kevin and I got the pick of the best stuff...nana

We also toured his Nascar collection along with prints from Dale Klee of Cambridge. Lots of neat stuff to see and he invited us back as a club this summer for the day or weekend, as he has camping grounds for tents with electrical hook-ups for campers. I'm hoping he has a 1/4 scale race this summer to go see.

Here's a few pics of the cars he sold and a teaser for Derek. A '29 model A driver he is selling.

 

Mike was there and took a LOT more pics that he will be sending to John to post too. He has one '72 he is currently working on but his main interst is the '66-'67 cars.

It was a fun visit and Leroy was a great host.  Thanks Chris for setting it up.  I will probably need to burn a disk to give John D. due to all the pictures I took and will pass them on at next weeks meeting.

Neat cars! A few years ago, he had a bunch of 59 Chevy stuff too. My brother bought a couple parts-cars from him.

The asking price for the lot of 5 seemed very reasonable if you could swing it... was priced where you could sell off 4 of them and keep one for free. :)

What was the asking price of the Model A? Not that I need another old Ford, but I'm curious anyway.

I don't recall if he said a price. Maybe one of the others heard it.

He seems to move from one addition to the next. He has 3 68-72 pickups in the building with the A and stated he had 34 of them before he got hooked on Chevelles. He only has a few left. He wants to sell off the Nascar collection too. He'll be busy for a long time listing them one by one on ebay...laughing

This was one of those something for everyone days, Leroy was an excellent and gracious host in his little slice of hobby heaven.  Lots of car parts and automotive memorabilia even old, really old snowmobiles, first Colman snow machine I’ve seen in a long time. Mike what was that thing called?

His collection of die cast cars was overwhelming; I think if Derek and the boys had gone they might still be there.

I found the split bench seat with the self- contained three point harness set up I’ve been looking for out of a Buick.  I asked Leroy if he thought a guy could dye one and he asked me what color I wanted, stating he has several seats in storage in Big Lake.  Jim and I had to leave he bought so many things for his wife’s Valentines gifts the back of my Jeep was full; but I’ll be back this spring.

If that wasn’t enough for one day we stopped by Corvette Specialty’s on the way back and managed to stuff even more things in the back of the Jeep.

Thanks again for setting this up Chris; it was a great day indeed.

BTW.. My avatar was taken in Leroys drive a few years back when he had a car show there.. Burnouts were encouraged.

 There is a gal from OK that specializes in 66-67 chevelles.  She has quite a collection, somethink like 8  66-7 chevelles, and some of the top chevelles in the country.    I should have asked LeRoy, if maybe it was her.

She has a couple of chevelles that are each worth $100K.

Be sure to look at the cars she owns and the cars she and her husband have sold.  I would classify them as collectors/restore/dealers.

 Curious where they show up and price ??

All of them were nice cars but, as Leroy said, not "show" cars. Most had original paint color and interior but that's where it ended. He built them as he wanted. My feeling is he got pretty much top dollar and I don't see a lot of room for huge profit, unless the new owner does some "number matching" magic.

 Jacquie has one of the sexiest black Chevelles I have ever seen. I love the red interior, red stripe and redlines. The open door driver's side shot has haunted my dreams for years.
