Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone that knows there carbs, can give me alittle guidance. My dad has a 540 big block and he cant stand the dominator carb on the motor right now so he wants to get rid of it. He's looking at a Carburetor, Model 4150 HP, 950 cfm, Square Bore, 4-Barrel, Dual Inlet, . Can anyone give me advice on this. Looking to get him this maybe for xmas. Thanks so much. Looking for something for the street.

The best thing you can do is get it on a chassis dyno and tune it that way. I can get it working well for you, but you need tailpipe feedback to really make it perfect. The 950 is a good call. I have one of the new Holleys and I really like it.

Hey are you looking to buy new or used ? 540 is a hungry engine hard hitting engine. Give a ProSystems call, or email ask for Patrick. He may even be able to setup your current Dominator to run well on the street. I have a 1000HP Holley that was not giving me all I wanted and I went with a Prosystems 1000HP and could not be happier. I would not waste my time with an off the shelf Holley with a 540. I have a 557bbc that is very happy now. Chassis dyno is good and bad it really does not take in account for the dynamics at the luanch or hard acceleration on the street or track. I was leaning out bad when I luanched the car and at the end of the run this did not show up on the dyno. MY AFR showed all was well on the dyno. Big cubes need a lot of fuel and hit so hard that fuel goes away from the jets in the secondary. The accerator pumps need different camming and the bleeds are different based on cam and engine demand. If you are looking for new I would give ProSystems a call and would not waste my time with a Holley 950 for a 540. The price is about the same for either new. I went 4150 vs 4500 for the streetablilty.

Here is some info on 950HP vs 1000HP on Speed talk

If you are looking used I have a Holley 1000HP may consider selling but was saving it for a future 496. It fed my 557 fine after some tweking to it.
Good Luck
