What I want and can afford seem to be quite different.

That Blue one a week ago is a nice car but there where things I would change on it too and we couldn't agree on a price. This one cost less than half the Blue one and I can add things as I go.

WOW Mitch Now thats nice. Soooo many things you can do with that car. A nice paint job and a little bigger motor. And your good to go. Some wheels & tires and some muff to make it sound good . Take pictures and post them when it gets to your house. Those you can start an Album with then. My

A 216 6 cylinder, supposedly the born with engine, and 3 speed manual. All original drive train. It has an older resto with decent interior.

I may be going to get it next week. It's in Tennessee.

It needs paint but most of the metal is very solid.

I see black on top, silver on the bottom, keep the wide whites, keep the black board rubbers, make the channeling on the engine side covers silver maybe. Looks like a nice ride.

I've had crazy dreams about making something like that car into a full-on racecar, but keeping it as stock appearing as possible from the outside.

Once the alteration starts, the wide whites will go. It will get suspension upgrades, but I'm not sure yet if I want to keep the straight axle and convert it to disc brakes. The king pins and steering don't allow for good high speed handling but I like the "gasser" look too. Probably end up with an IFS conversion to get power rack steering unless there's a conversion for the straight axle to rack steering. I haven't looked into that. I know the aftermarket gasser axles can be had with power racks. Tremec has a 5 speed conversion to keep the stock shifter in the original location. That would be cool to have people think it still had a 3 speed trans. Of course it will get a small block too and 10 bolt rear eventually.

I'm not going to tear into it until I get a couple of my other projects sold, so it may get an "earl shibe" paint job next year and drive it for a while as is.

I should have it back here next Wednesday....

I know you'll have a lot of fun with it Mitch! Tough to be the rock-solid reliability of a small-block with a stick behind it. Color choices are always personal opinions but I don't really like 2-tone paint on these late '30s Chevys. Odd..

The ones I've liked best have always been either really bright or really dark (like black). Also odd..

I keep forgetting to talk to my uncle about his '40 coupe. I know he has talked about selling it... I haven't seen it in probably 15 years, and even then, it was in the corner of his garage with junk piled all around it, but I think it was a pretty solid body.

When my parents bought their Model T, my uncle said he wanted to race Dad to see who could finish their project first... Dad finished the T restoration in 1992, and the coupe is still in that same corner of the garage it was in then... so it's been sitting a while.

2104 miles round trip and came home with an empty trailer. WHY is it so hard for people to tell you the truth about a car's condition.

You're a man that's not afraid of a car challenge, So I have to guess it was pretty bad...

I explained to the owner that I wasn't looking for body repairs and it needs a ton of panel replacement before paint. Bottoms of both doors were GONE.....just holes. Both front fenders need more than "minar" patching. They may have to be replaced along with the running boards. Left cowl had been hit pretty hard in the past and badly straightened and then filed with bondo. Rust holes completely thru the A pillars....etc. ect. He was right about the floors, trunk and frame being good, but he didn't think the rest was a "big deal" and figured I would replace all that. I'm not sure where he got that idea from after we talked for an hour about what I was looking for...

It was a very good start for a complete restoration but I thought I had been clear that I didn't want that. I only wanted to change out the drive train and paint it, not buy another project....

Mitch, since your a TC poster. Next time make a post and see if there is anyone in the area that can look at the car for you beforehand. That sucks that you had to go way out there and come back empty handed.
