Driveshaft Balance - Care to recommend a shop?

Charlie Mu.... works at Catco... but he recently changed positions.

I had mind done at the Roseville location when I did the LT-1/4L60 conversion. Don't know how fast they spun it, but an imbalance condition is an imbalance condition - it'll show up regardless of RPM... unless at the higher RPM it's introducing a harmonic that's rattling something else.

Looking for a couple of recommendations.  I had mine done about 8 yrs ago at CATCO in Rochester, mn.  I think they could spin it only around 3000rpm or less.  Thanks.

Are you having issues with vibration at higher RPM? Catco was going to be my recommendation.

Charlie from our club works at a shop but I haven't heard from him in a couple years.

Jim, I’ve never seen your car go fast enough for the drive shaft to reach 3000 RPM.

That was my first thought as well.

I was at 5000 + when I threw the PS belt in 3rd gear, would guess the driveshaft would be at about 3400.  Remember I don't have a  fancy transmission with the 5th gear, just an old M20.  Jumps up to 5000 pretty quick in 3rd gear.  Hardly ever go over 90mph; but that would give me about 3650.  So on occasion it happens.

Actually the minor vibiration happens at about 65-70mph in 4th.  Most likley the bias tires, rims, or brake drums being a little out of balance.  So If I stay under 60 all is good.

I'd bet bias tires over anything else. We use Proven Force (CLutch & U-Joint) in Maple Grove for work, there's also a driveshaft company somewhere off I-94 and about Riverside, but I forget the name right now.

Catco in Burnsville cut welded, and balanced mine. I want to say $50 to balance? Could have been more though.

Jim, are you sure you didn’t just doze off and dream this?

I hit 5000 grand in second gear one day and thru the alternator belt, but I had a redhead sitting next to me…….then I woke up.

Speaking of things, how'd that rear end noise turn out Kevin?

Nope, it was Rachael and she make me stay under 90mph.

Pulled the cover for a visual inspection everything looked good so I add TWO bottles of limited slip additive and two quarts of 80-90w gear lub.  I’ve driven a couple hundred miles made several very tight turns both forward and reverse and even lite the tires up a little to check the posi, its working great.

Once again Bryan thanks to you and others for all your help that evening.
