Did a little racing on Saturday

Jim D (bowtieman427) and I dodged the rain on Saturday and went to Cedar Falls.  My best time last year was 12.13 and this winter I changed gears  from 3.42's to 3.73's, which I hoped would get me into the 11's.  I spent the day working on my transmission tune, trying to get the car to shift at max rpms' by itself. I got it consistant, but couldn't find the 11's.  Five runs were 12.262, 12.252, 12.249, 12.196, 12.196.  It was warm and humid so maybe with some better weather I can get there at Rock Falls.

Here's a few videos, I put who it was in the title, because our cars look a lot alike on the track.  Until he pulls his wheels off the ground, and me well not so much..

Cedar Falls 5-5-12

Steve, you gotta be happy with that!  Very consistent.  Nothing wrong with a low 12 second car at all!  thumbsup

My '66 turned 14.14 last fall and I KNOW you have way more engine than me. Mid 13's should easy for you.

Steve, are you going the rock on Saturday ?

I'm happy with low twelves, but I figured I'd see at least a little gain with my gear change.  And, maybe I will if the weather was better.

Nitrous scares me a little.  I think if I had stock compression I would try a 100 shot, but I'm about 11.25:1.  I've read it doesn't change compression, only cylinder pressure but I can't risk blowing this motor up for a time slip.cool

Mitch-I was planning on Rock Falls.  I've got a couple of things I need to reschedule, but I'm going to try.

I was happy to see a 13.xx number. Once I get stuff a little better dialed in with the tranny shifting, EFI tuning, and now the rear is down I would like to pick up 1/4 second. I owuld love to see 12s but I don't think I have that much to gain, even with slicks.

Yep, I wasn't going to rev it over 6000 to be safe.  But 6200 made it go faster, then 6500 isn't that much more, now I've bounced it off the fuel cut-off at 6900 trying to get a little more.

These LS motors like to rev, but not a lot of torque down low.  If I was going to make a drag car it would need a lot deeper gears.  My 60' times are a terrible 1.8, and I'm only mid 5000's through the traps.   Lots of room for gains if I didn't care about being able to still cruise down the road and get 17 mpg.
