Members:

Here is the information about our April meeting!

Date: Saturday, April 21, from 11am to 4pm

Place: Jon H’s home, then Forest Lake Sportsmen’s Club

Schedule:

Jon's Residence

·         11:00 to 11:45 – Bench Racing & Lunch (provided)

·         11:45 to 12:15 – Club Meeting

·         12:15 to 12:45 – Firearms Safety & Range Rules training

·         12:45 to 1:00  – travel to range, check in

Forest Lake Sportsmen’s Club

·         1:00 to 4:00  – shooting.

All current/paid members will receive directions to Jon H.'s house via email.

Minors  - Due to safety concerns the following rules are in place, and are inflexible.

·         We must limit youngsters to ONLY those that will be shooting.

·         Children must be at least 11 years old.

·         All minors must have a parent or guardian present at all times!

·         All minors wanting to shoot must have taken an accredited Firearms Safety Class.

·         All minors must have their Firearms Safety credentials available for inspection.

·         As always, guests are welcome at our meetings, but we would like to limit attendees (at the range) to only those who are going to shoot. Space is limited and non-participants create distractions and are a safety concern.

Please click here for a link to the Forest Lake Sportsmen's Club for more detailed information about the facility.

A detailed message should be arriving in your NCC roster-listed email "inbox" by now. It should answer all your questions. If you have any questions, email the Webmaster

The Officers ask that you keep the information & details "in-house", meaning paid/current NCC members only. We the are guests of a Sportsmen's Club member.

The poll feature is somewhat limited, so please reply here (as well as the poll) with a count of who will be attending.

Check the Bill's website... It appears that "kids" are allowed with a waiver and parent/guardian present. My son is stoked - he wants to come along.

Once it's into April check your emails.

My 19 year old son and 22 year old daughter are also VERY interested in doing this!  aknana

As I understand, the only cost should be your ammo ande targets.

I'm not sure yet if I can make it, AJ's birthday is that weekend...

In the email, it said 25yd range. Is there a longer range available for rifles?

If I come up, I'll bring handguns in .22, .380, 9mm, .40 and .45, and a few fun open sight rifles AR15, AK-47, and M1 Garand.

Dang Derek. Instead of a go-kart track. You need a nice gun range.thumbsup

Steve, the email said no .50 BMGs ;) (I wish... even if I could afford the rifle, I couldn't afford to feed it)

You're welcome to borrow a few if you want to try any of them out... I'm out of rounds for the M1 though, and still need to order more.

I plan on attending. I can bring a .22, .380, 9mm, & .45, and possibly with some persuasion my new purchase of AR15 (.223)? Just picked up last week.

This sounds like a good time but I am out for this one. If it doesn't work out for others and they still want to shoot some day I have a range at my cabin in Pine City that can be used. It only has one shooting bench but we also shoot a lot of clays.

Long guns are acceptable, the only issue is we will be limited to the 25 yard range as the rest of the ranges are open to other members that day. If it gets real quiet we can sneak out to one of the other ranges but it is doubtful being a saturday.

I'll be bringing my favorite "old-timer's", a Colt 1903 (.32 auto) and a Marlin 39A rifle (.22LR). The Colt's a "mouse gun" by today's standards, but easy to shoot and accurate, the Marlin is one of the best lever-actions ever built, painless to shoot, and crazy accurate at 25yds.

Gander Mountain is about the only place that has 32 auto in stock.

A couple of notes for Saturday.

Anyone who wants to bring their Chevelle, I have about a third of an acre of grass for parking. Part of the road to the range and the parking lot is gravel so I suggest not taking Chevelles to the range. I can take a crew in my truck and Terry D. was over today and said he would drive his truck and would have extra room.

Anyone buying ammo who wants to shoot a 9MM, should buy 9mm Luger, DO NOT 9MM KURZ as that is actually 380 caliber ammo. If anyone is totally unable to find any ammo let me know I just might have some extra I can sell you. It looks like there will be hand guns chambered in 22 caliber, 9MM, 40 S&W, and 45ACP available to shoot. 22 ammo should probably be 22LR.

Don't forget your eye and ear protection.

If anyone has any questions regarding ammo just pm or call me.

I'll be bringing a "jumbo-box" of 22LR, and about 100 of .32ACP (Fleet Farm stocks it!). I'll probably bring a box or 2 of 9mm... I'd like to try a few different pieces.

Here's the count I see so far for the Gun Range post meeting:

Jon H.-1

John D.-2

Mike-2

Steve S.-1

Loren-1

Stan-1

Mitch-Maybe?

That's 8 and 1 maybe.  I need anyone that is planning on shooting at the range shooting event to RSVP NOW so that we know how many people to count on.

Keep in mind that the club is paying the $150 range rental fee that was approved at the last meeting, so it is important to make a commitment if you are going to do this.

Thanks.

Stan

Been trying to find a way to get to this one, looking at handguns and never shot one, or even held one I guess. Just have about a dozen things going on that weekend and it is 160 miles one way. Not gonna make it.hyper Might have to visit Derek after he gets moved in, sounds like he has plenty of guns to check out.aknana

We could only just take photo's at the meeting part and the shooting part can stay annonymous.

Just bring some $$ to chip in, or a box of the caliber of gun you'd like to try shooting... It'll work out - if you don't shoot 'em all, the gun owner will. I'll have a few tablets of targets along to blow holes through.

will thier holders take only a certain size target or are they just a hanging clip? I have some large square ones approx 12x12 and some smaller maybe 8x8 sized ones. I've only been to indoor ranges where you clip onto and send it down the wire.

Targets are stapled onto cardboard back so any size or shape will work.

A word of caution for the ride here, the Centenial Lakes and Lino Lakes Police have NO sense of humor, watch the speed zones. Consider yourself warned.

I took a ton of pics, but only a handful came out well enough to post with all the motion. Even with it set as fast as it would capture, between the shooter moving from the recoil or the surprise pressure/sound from someones HANDCANNON (you all know know who you are) I sitll had a had time. I also was playing with light settings and didn't want to ue the flash much so it wouldn't disturb the shooters.

I had a blast. Haven't fired a pistol in a couple years. This was the first time with revolver and I liked it a lot. I ran though my whole box of 325 rounds. Thanks to Jon for letting me borrow it. Thanks to John for letting me put a clip of AK downrange. Thanks to Mike for letting me shoot a rifle with a scope. Thanks to Chris for letting me put a clip of semi auto 9mm down. Thanks to Jon for a couple wheels of .38 revolver to see the differece in recoil. I'm sure I probably forgot someone, so thanks to you too.

Here's some pics:
