Any '69 interior experts?

I was going through some of the pix from the old restoration of my car and found an interesting one of the dash.  I believe it to be the original dash as it was in the car prior to restoration.  It is a lousy picture as it is a scanned 2X2 original polaroid photo.  In the center of the dash above the heater controls it looks like it says SS396.  I can not find any photos or information that an original dash had the SS396 anywhere above the controls, only on the crome strip above the glove box.  Any thoughts on why it is there or if any of the originals were like that?  I'll attach the old photo and one of the current dash.

Im pretty sure someone just added that for decoration. It looks like its a 69SS door panel enbelem that they put there.

Chris is right, it's a door panel emblem. What you have now is correct.

I just noticed you have a factory tach too... very cool, didn't realize your car had one. thumbsup

Did you ever sell the one you had by the way?

nope, still have it... I kind of expected it not to sell, I put a high price on it knowing that I don't mind keeping it for the SS car if nobody wants it bad enough to pay that much.

Okay , that sounds reasonable. Now on the dash plaque insert above the gove box, did the non SS cars say Chevelle or Malibu or 300 Deluxe or was it just left blank?

The Malibu models just said Malibu on them instead of SS396. Im not sure what the 300's had or even if they had one at all.
