14" OR 15" STEEL RIMS FOR REDLINE RADIALS?

Looking at possibly putting on a set of redline radials.  How accessible are 15x7 gm steel rims?  Looking for offsets in the range of  of 0.50 to 1.00.  I have a set of 14x6 rims; but not as many options regarding tire size.  Thanks,

I got a set of 15" steels off a 73 or 74 monte carlo on my 66 and was able to put the dog dish caps on them. Or if you want to go new Wheel vintique also sells new ones that will work. Go to summit or jegs and you can look them up, I don't remember the model number off the top of my head.

Wheel vintique number 62-5734044. This looks to be the correct ones.

Thanks for the info Chris. What kind of backspace or offset on the Monty rims? I think I want to go with P225/R70 14 or P225/R70 15 . Wonder how the Monty rims with these tires will fit. I know the 14" will be fine, since I had those on the rally rims I sold to Karl.

Jegs has P225/R70 14 BF Goodrich Silvertown (Made by some other manufacture)Redlines for $991 to the house. Summit has the same tires for $910.

Diamond Back has authentic BF Goodrich tires, P225/R70 14 Redlines to the house for $960. Is it all hype that the Silvertowns not being as good as the authentic BF tires true?

I have 14" rims, I would have to buy 15" rims. Presently I had original Drum Brakes on the front. Maybe the 14" rims would be a problem, If at sometime I wanted to go with disc brakes?

I never measured the backspacing but I would think they are 4.5 like a stock rally rim. They fit and look just like the 14" rims that I took off.

Yes if you decide to run disc brakes you could run into problems with a 14 inch rim possibly hitting the calipers.

I don't know much about the radial redlines as to what is good or bad. I just put some normal radials on mine.

So I forgot. Do you have the stock dog dish caps?  If you have the dog dish caps, are  there 4 or 3 nubs that would hold these on.  Any issues installing or removing the caps or the caps being loose?

I have hear all gm A bodies from 73 to 77 will work with 14x6; but have 4 nubs instead of 3, like in 66.  And 73-77 A body wagsons for 14x7.  thanks

The diamondback rep said his tires are good made in the usa and not the junk that the Silvertowns are, which he though were  made overseas.  He gave me the name of the manufacture; but I had never heard of it.  He said BF Goodrich has not made the Silvertowns\ line model for at least 15 yrs.  Redlines run about $900-1000 just for the tires, so I should expect good tires.  Think it will be diamondback.  thanks.

Yes I have the dog dish caps on the 15's. I don't remember how many nubs are on the rims, but the caps fit perfect. No issues putting them on or taking them off.

This past weekend I checked the rims I have. 15x7 have a 4 5/8 backspacing and have four "nubs" for holding on the hubcap. The stock 64-67 caps fit on without problems (see pics). I got a pair at a swap meet then spent about a year and a half finding 3 more one by one (ones for a spare). Of course after that I found a set of four at a swap and bought those too. I have no idea what vehicle they are from. Possibly midsize 70s station wagon?

I also have a set of 14x6 which will work with disc brakes and 11" rotors. They also have four nubs and the stock caps fit them as well. I got them off of a 75 Nova.

Hope this helps.
