So for that last month or so I have been suffering with back problems. Finally Doctor pulled me out of work for 2 weeks so I stop flairing up the muscle spasms that have me moving like a turtle.

This just figures because last weekend I scored a few key parts for the wifes Camaro. Have a little extra cash to get the frame repaired and put together. Now I can't get out there to do anything with this back, just standing and doing some dishes hurts it now. After the wife was on the mower for 4 hrs doing leaf pickup I'm not going to open my mouth about my back. Would like to get that car done and out of the shed so I have some room though.

Add Dave to the SIQ list.

When my back gets real bad I sleep on the floor for a couple of nights, it seems to help. Nothing worse than a bad back, it interferes with everything you try to do.

When I injured my back I started sleeping on the floor every night. Now its been since August since I had surgery to fix it and I still havent been able to sleep in our bed again because im so used to the floor. I keep tossing and turning, even though we bought a nice new mattress set over the summer just prior to my surgery. I cant afford to toss and turn all night on a school night so getting decent sleep on the floor is the only option I have during the week. What I need is a good week or so off of school.

I herniated a disc in my low back when I was 24 trying to be Hercules. I have had constant back pain since. Most days it's manageable with loosening up after rolling out of bed, and I do mean roll. I haven't sat up to get out of bed in 35 years. There are days when it gets so bad, I can't turn my head or stand straight. The pain is so intense that it takes my breath away and it hurts just to breath. When it gets like that I go to a chiropractor. That is the only thing that helps get the vertebrae back in position. I had a really good Doc until 5 years ago and he moved. I haven't been to another since and it's time I find one. They ALL want to take x-rays and do a full exam and I tell them I know my back is junk, has calcification, etc. I say if you really know what to look for, you don't need an x-ray, just run your hands down my spine and you will know where it needs adjustment. A few in the past told they couldn't without x-rays first and I leave. The good ones give me a funny look and say "come on back and I'll see what I can do". I believe there are a lot of marginal chiropractors out there and many people have had bad experiences with them, but a good one WILL help you get back to "normal", which for me is tolerable pain, not perfect or pain free. And don't expect it to get good in a visit or 2. When I'm really bound up, it takes a few weeks of every other to 3rd day of adjusting to get it back in line and stay there. For me, this is the only treatment I will get. There's no way anyone is going to stick a knife in my back. I know too many people who have had horrible experiences with back surgery and they never seem to be any better than me after just getting adjusted...2cents

Seems you never hear how common back pain is until you go through the pain yourself. I had no idea how many people around me had this sort of pain. My wife and B-I-L both had the same surgery I had, here in the club John H helped me with a few pain patches he used with success since he also had problems and Ian called me a few weeks back with nearly identical pain problems I had but I havent heard how is has been doing for a while.

I went to a few Chiropractors and they wanted X Rays and needed me to sign up for their 30-50 session pkg they offer. The one I see now said try a few visits and if it works for you great, if it does not well we will part ways. I made a few visits to him and things got better so I still see him. Then my wife tried him for a few visits and she never said anything about seeing him again. I find out later it worked for her but since "THE IDIOT MAN SHE MARRIED" had the idea she is not allowed to admit it works and she still visits when her back acts up. So if you do find a good doctor stick with them, and thank them.

My back hurts once in awhile but not like you guys are describing! I hope you all find some relief! I've thrown my back out twice (where I heard it pop) and that took a month or so to heal completely. But if I don't overstress it, it's fine most of the time. I still feel it after working on the car (bent over the fender) for a couple days straight, but since I don't do it all the time anymore (and I'm not 25 anymore) I kind of expect that. It's just muscles, I'm sure. But it gets better after a couple days.

I feel for ya, because I know when my back hurts I'm pretty much useless...even more than usual..LOL!

Went to the Doctor today for him to check how my back is doing. He decided to see/find what causes pain and how bad does it get. Well this guy is good, I walked in there feeling the best I have in days and when I left I was in severe pain. So by the time I got a refill on more pain pills and waited in road construction an hour later, they called. I'm booked for an MRI on Thursday. They decided I also need a full body Xray due to working with grinders, welders and previous metal slivers in my eyes. Oh the joy of getting old and injured, and a wife who wants to know WTF I do all day while she is at work.

At least they were smart enough to ask some history about your profession and hobbies. You really don't want to go through the results of an ancient metal sliver (deeply buried) when they run you through "the tube"... especially one in your eye.

My thoughts exactly. Mayo wanted to do an MRI a few years back and after I told them what I do, they had me get an eye exam to look for particles before doing the MRI. Kinda scary when they say the particles will get pulled thru your eye and brain to lodge on the inside of your skull....hyper

Did the XRay and MRI today, who knows when I get the results back. I was supposed to go back to work on Monday and that does not look like it is going to happen.

When I had my MRI done this past summer. They didnt ask anything about any meterials in my eyes even after I told them what I do for a living. They actually didnt need the info, I brought the subject up. The MRI machine they used didnt require me to be put into a coffin sized box. I was in an open room laying on my back with a giant machine inches above my chest and torso area but my arms were free to reach anywhere. It was open on all sides to the room, my wife sat beside me the entire time and they even gave me headphones to wear with music of my choice during the entire time. I was actually kind of relaxing.

Those tests are all digital now and they have the results right away. When your Doc gets around to looking at them is another story. Do you feel like you're ready to go back to work ?

I can barely move unless the pills are working and then things seem a tick fuzzy. Once my back does settle down I'm doing great and feel fine, it still has not settled down from the doctors the other day. They had decided that one of the meds cranked my Blood Pressure up a little to high 190/120 and 160/140 so down to just 2 meds now.
