How to Run a stock hood with my 540
Permalink

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of how I can get my stock hood to fit back on me and my dads car with the 540. Probly will have to change the intake and carb. Or just get a new hood. Stock hood looks so much nicer sometimes. Just asking for ideas. Thanks

What intake are you running?  Carb?  Air cleaner?  Spacer?

I'm able to run an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 (crappy performing intake-probably losing 25-30 hp) with an Edelbrock carb and a 3/8" spacer with the stock cowl induction air cleaner on my 402, but the '70-72 domed cowl induction hood has a lot of space in it compared to the '69/69 hood.

Have you test fit the hood to determine how much lower the engine components need to be ?

I am running a 557bbc Meriln II short deck, (are you running a tall deck ? )  with a big Merlin X single plane and 1" spacer, K&N 3 x 14 filter with a 1 1/4"  drop base. 1000 HP Holley carb. Dominator may sit up higher. Not 100% sure if this is optimal and may do something different, but it works.

I have another drop base that even goes down further but did not need it. SS Hood clears great.

If you need a base let me know.

Not sure if you have SS hood but on 72 they have a 1" or 2" more clearance. I understand about the hood. I did not want to run a non stock style hood.

How far are you off ?
