Now I am wrestling with the gas gauge

So I noticed my new Chevelle has gauge never goes over 1/4 tank reading. It does go below that so I guess I have to count my blessings. But, being I like an accurate read on my fuel level ( I am funny that way lately) I did some reading on the TC site so here is where I am at:

Pulled known good working sending unit out of old Chevelle. Installed in new Chevelle and cleaned up ground point on body/trunk. In complete confidence I filled her up ... still at 1/4 tank.

More reading on TC site.

Pulled electrical plug in trunk, hit the key and the gauge goes to F. I did this 3 times to test and "re-train" my gauge but it didn't fix it.

Do I need a frame ground instead of a body ground? I can't imagine the float is getting hung up in the tank? Is it possible the wire from the sending unit is compromised somewhere? Bad ground on gauge in dash?

Anyway, anybody else deal with this issue successfully???

Disconnect the wire going to the tank and check for about 8-9 volts on the wire coming from the gauge. If this is ok go to radio shack and pick up a potentiometer that goes from 0-100 ohms, should only be a couple bucks. You can then hook the potentiometer from ground to the wire to the gauge and go from 0-90 ohms and it should make the gauge sweep E to F. Just unhooking the wire and having it go to full is not a accurate test of the gauge.

Second if you have an ohm meter you should be able to measure resistance through the sender in the tank to ground. If you tank is full you should be close to 90 ohms to make sure the sender is working when it is in the tank. Hope this helps.
