I just got back from moving my parents back to Minnesota from Arizona. We drove most of the way of the old Route 66. It was neat but I would like someday to do the old route as much as possible from end to end. We left Arizona on Friday at noon and went from Arizona to New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma City.

I've driven it before from the start in California through Oklahoma City and once from St. Louis to Chicago but not up through Tulsa to St. Louis. I think I will add the whole Route to my bucket list.

Has anyone here driven the whole route in one shot? If so was it a good experience?

Hey Tim.  Welcome back to piles of snow still bein around...  emote.img?ID=15268

Just last week my wife mentioned sometime taking the Chevelle on Route 66 would be fun (AC install required!).  I've never done it, but it is on my bucket list too.

This might be a trip for the Mustang, 27 mpg would be better than 10 mpg with the Elky, plus if it breaks down I just need to call the 800 number.

If anyone wants to do the trip, I have a set of maps for every state. Unfortunately there is very little of the "mother road" left if most places. I drove part of it in Az. a few years ago on the Harley and would not have taken a car on it as it was so narrow.

Check out this show in Springfield, IL.
http://www.familyevents.com/event/180

It has turned into the must show of the year for us. Ran by the same people that run CarCraft, about 1200 cars, all on downtown streets right by our hotel (we have 3 extra rooms). Derek and Jenna went one year with us, we meet up with people from the Tri State Club and the Heartland group. Anyone wanting to come along, it is the one far cruise we make in the Chevelle, about 425 miles from northern Iowa. Let me know if interested, you can find out everything there is to know about Route 66 there!emote.img?ID=15301

For an animated movie it has some great detail especially during the race sceens with the pavement close ups and the King going airborne.

I received the DVD as a gift and I enjoy watching it. Usually with the nephew's but I've watched it on my own too.
