Hurt myself today by not paying attention

heat gun

I was using it to heat the floor insulation I was putting in my car. I set it down and a couple seconds later, I put my left hand down right on the hot metal end for about 2 seconds. Didn't even register in my brain for the first second, then it hit home quick. Skin is all there but I have a little texture on the edge of my palm now.

it was a good time to quit.

Yeah that sucks. Hope it doesn't blister all up.
Ever heat a rusted nut red hot, spin it off with an inpact and then shake it out in your hand to put it aside ?  I've heard of people forgetting it was just red hot and doing that....emote.img?ID=15292

I looked at the heat gun, 1500 watts puts the core at 910 degrees. I only hit the outside "protector/shield" thing which puts it somewhere beyond ouch and short of lava.

I just about slipped and drove a screwdriver into my leg yesterday working on a carb linkage spring, and stopped myself just in time.  emote.img?ID=15267

A few years ago I had a knucklehead set me on FIRE with one of those things. We were soldering input cables to audio patchbays (about 900 connections ) and had shrink tube on each one of them. We'd do about 30 or so, and then hit 'em with the heat gun.
The goofball I was working with hit his connections, and set the gun down - in what he thought was the "fan only" cool-down mode. Nope. Still on.
Never the less it was pointed at me, and the hoodie sweatshirt I was wearing was about 1-1/2" away. About the time we smelled something we figured out what it was... ME.

Hope you got your hand dunked in some cold water quickly, and got some ice on the wound. Those burns go deep, even when you don't realize it.

Well, I did what my wife would have wanted me to do (mind you, she works at a hospital and is often working in the ER): unplug the heat gun, move everything back out of the way and pull her van in, THEN get ice. I actually got an ice pack and put my hand on it until I couldn't, then took it off until it hurt again. Did that for an hour until it didn't hurt uch anymore.

Today, it looks pretty decent. Looks a little like a bad spider bite since it was on tha fold of skin an inch below my pinky finger. The skin is red, and there's no more texture to it-just smooth.
