Adding a console

So, I am considering adding a console to my car. I may make one out of wood like I did 33 years ago in my first Chevelle that had 12 switches, 9 lights, cassette tape slots, B&M Star Shifter and room for junk. However ... I may be more conservative this time with just a few switches and indicator lights and some (if not all) of the gauges.

Did our cars only come with a console when it had the staple shifter? I may go surfing at U-Pull to see what I can find there to retrofit what I want unless someone here has something that may work???

Try and find a late 90s or early 00s blazer or S10 console. They look pretty nice in these cars. Someone on Team Chevelle used one in his and it looks like it belongs there and also posted pics. Also grab the shifter with it if you can.

And yes, there was a console with a staple shifter in 71-72 as well. But only the coupes got it, no 4 doors were offered with the console. If you have a bench seat in your car, your going to need to swap to buckets as well.
