Want to change pulleys on H2O pump, PS, and Alt. from stock to March. Any secrets or advice on getting the pulleys off before I venture on doing it ?
Are there certian pullers I need I think the PS is a Key way style not press fit. I have something like kit 23020 (parts)

You can rent the puller from o'reilly's for the p/s pump and I think you can for the alternator too (three jaw or p/s puller).

DON'T try to hold the pulley with anything, especially your hand, when you pull the trigger on the impact. The torque will remove the nut and the pulley will fall off in your hand.

Ive held the pulleys with a thick glove on and used an impact. Its not as big of a deal as it seems. Although I dont recommend it for the first time if you have never done it before.

I saw it done at Car Craft when Derek's alternator got toasted, several times as we noticed the spacing was different;

Yup, the most difficult part of the procedure is having the 1", or 1-1/6", or is it 1-1/8" socket in your kit. biggrin

Just put a heavy leather glove on and give it a burp with the impact - it'll spin right off.

Been a while since I worked on a sbc/bbc old style alt. It is true, only impact required.
