GM Parts Book #'s for 66 motor mounts
Permalink

I was wonder if anyone knew where I could get a part number for the 66 motor mounts.  www.oldmusclecars.com use to sell gm mounts; but they are no longer available. They appear to sell aftermarket ones now.  All Mitch and I seem to be able to find are aftermarket one's that are not very good.

Mitch has look at a few and all seem to be poorly made and rather thin metal.  All the parts places seem to get them from the same supplier, even though they throw different names out there like Anchor (O'reillys)  Balkamp (NAPA), etc.

Thought maybe if we had the part #, we could do a search though a gm dealer.

Thanks,

frame side or engine side, also application exactly-big b lock or small block. I forgt which engine you have. What I can look up in the parts books is only what was exact, though a 327 engine side I would think work on a 350 block as long as the frame side matches. ie: if the frame sides are original, what was the original engine? There shows several styles of mount.

Once I know that, I can search dealerships to see what's still available.

Cris, that was for the frame brackets, they are on their way.  This is for the motor mounts.

Bryan thanks for the offer.  These are for the engine mounts.  There original part #s are 3886467-8, right and left were different.  These are no longer made since they were the non-safety type and Chevrolet experienced a lot of problems, so there was a big recall and a new type of safety mount was developed.   So I was looking for the current # that the old number crossed over too.

SB mounts were 3840749-50.  The reason for the 2 numbers is that there was a welded nut on one side, so mounts were not reversable.  Aftermarkets have no nuts so they are reversable.

Mitch and I have been looking at the aftermarket suppliers and the mounts out there for both the 327 and 396, which are different are, well to be nice,  a poor product.  The 327 and 283 mounts are still the non-safety type.  The 396 mounts are of the safety type.  64-67 chevelle are different from  the 68 and up and the passenger cars.   A common number for Anchor and other manufactures is 2285 for the BB and 2142 for the SB.

If your just looking for something thats going to work. Do what I did, buy a set of Energy Suspension mounts(they make them as well) from Summit and call it a day. They fit just fine and I had no problems dropping the engine back in. Nor will I ever have to pull the engine out because of any tears in the rubber like my originals had (and they will eventually tear, its a big block). They are eurothane mounts. Slid right into the frame brackets like GM made it.

Just may end up doing that as opposed to the rubber mount with the saftey tab.  Glad to hear that they went in and fit with no problem.  Thought there might be some issues as there usually are with aftermarket products.

let me know what you decide-GM or A/M. I can do a search Monday on what's still available at dealers, though probably will either be all gone or converted to a modern engine part number that will be more expensive than A/M.

I put the Carquest mounts on my previous 600hp Big Block and had no problem, maybe check Summit if you cannot find a good aftermarket or GM part.

There are many good a/m mounts for the 68-72 applications. The problem we are having is that GM never made a locking mount in a 66 Chevelle BB and we're experiencing bad parts and inaccurate application in formation.
I did get a pair of decent mounts from O'Reilly today. I had the local store bring in 2 Anchor 2285 mounts yesterday. One was marked Made in Korea and the other in India. The Korean mount is a decent looking product while the Indian part was made out of metal half as thick and the saddle that fits over the frame stand was 3/8ths of an inch too wide. They brought in 3 more today and one was the Korean part so I got it and test fitted the engine back in the chassis with original frame stands. It all lines up well and it will be going in for good once I get the rear main seal installed that arrived today.
