So is this the point that we turn the corner and it starts to get warmer?

Let's hope so! This cold stuff usually lasts into the first few weeks of February. Then probably more snow. Hopefully not too much more snow or spring rain. I'm thinking they are right with the flooding predictions this year. Hope none of the club members are susceptible to such problems!

The flood potential is dependant on the melt rate, but with the last few years as examples, I'm predicting a fast melt and huge flooding. With the massive amounts of snow the whole central region of the country received, there will be many 100 year records shattered. Why they continue to refer to the levels as "100 year records" is beyond me. We have seen MANY of those records reset in the past several years alone.

If the states along the main rivers were smart, they would be building levees and filling a million sand bags starting NOW, because they KNOW it will be needed. Open all the dams on the Mississippi and drain the river so all the water has some place to go. BUT, that isn't the way our governments works. They will wait until the last minute and cry that they don't have time or money to prevent major damage and depend on Federal relief to rebuild. What a waste of money. Pro-active prevention could save millions, if not billions, of dollars every time this happens but the smart, elected, officials don't seem to grasp what a common person see's. And to keep rebuilding the same towns time after time because this only happens "every 100 years" is absurd. Elevate or move the town and be done with it.

I'll vacate the soap box now.............next........wink

biggrin  that's good........I forgot I have a jacket that is good to -30° in the closet. I only wear it a few times a year. It's 20 years old and still looks like new !!! Guess I'll break it out today, since it's "a little chilly" out there.

If you're proud that your state makes the national news 90 times a year because International Falls is coldest spot in the lower 48...........
You just might be from Minnesota...wink

It was -23 on my deck this a.m. at 6:15 a.m.

It was 55 degrees inside the house because our home division lost power from 2:45 a.m.-6:20 a.m.!!!disbelief

I woke up at 2:45 a.m. when the smoke alarms beeped as the power went out and I didn't go back to sleep worrying about the power not coming back on and pipes freezing, finding somewhere to spend the night, etc.  Was darn happy when the power kicked back on as I was trying to get ready for work with a flashlight!  confuse

When I left for work every, and I mean EVERY house's furnace was running for blocks as all the furnace stacks had steam coming out!  The gas company was loving us.

Yeah, I have a thick hooded parka that says Genuine Chevrolet that Renee bought me back in '98. She complains I don't wear it in the winter, but it's so warm that I need tohave it unzipped in the car or I sweat in it. I wear it for about a week in winter, so it looks like new too.

How cold is it?  It's cold enough to make me dig up pics from the trip to Playa Del Carmen Mexico (45 min. south of Cancun) from 2 years ago.

The attached pic is the public beach in Playa.  My wife and I will be there in a few weeks.  CAN'T WAIT!!!!!  biggrin

Cancun huh Stan? One of Micheles clients gave us a weeks stay in Cancun for free earlier this week. All we have to do is pay for the flight.

Jump on it man!  We only pass through the Cancun airport as we take the van south to Playa, but we love the Riviera Maya area as it's a more laid back than the Cancun area (we're 'older' folks and stay at all inclusives without any kids around!).

I'm sure Cancun is lots of fun too.  For only the price of airfare, that's a steal!  smile

Try to avoid mid March and spring break if you can.  We usually go in Febr. to avoid the mayhem.  Did it once in March, and the Cancun airport was a zoo!
