WTB: 350 SBC Heads - another project
Permalink

All I am working on another project with my youngest son.  Building a motor for a 1980 Camaro.  I have a 350 4 bolt main, 1980 vintage.  Pulled it apart, still standard bore, but heads are 333882, producing, according to casting numbers a whopping 165hp (lame!!).  So with that said I am looking to build this to a 275-325 hp, nothing to crazy, because my son will likely drive it after he turns 16?

So I am looking for some decent heads, I can combine with a decent cam to get me in that range.

If you have anything you are looking to part with, let me know.

Thanks,

Loren

Do you have an intake already? I might have a line on a set of NEW Vortecs for cheap, but I won't know for a couple days.

How about a slightly used 383, complete except for waterpump, pulley system, and distributor?

I will have to think on the 383, as I have the 350 already torn down?  I will be looking for a intake as well Bryan, the aluminum intake on it is a no-name, so not sure what it is?  Let me know on the Vortecs, that might be a good option.

I have a set of 993 castings that I would part with, they came off a running motor but have been sitting on the shelf awhile. I would go through them before bolting them on.

I'm betting the 383 produces slightly more than 325 horse....biggrin
If it had been available a year ago, I would've considered it for my Camaro, but I just replaced the engine last April. Now I have no funds, due to the 66 "project"....hmm

As for heads, I have a good pair of '65 461's, ready for rebuild. Probably won't ever use them myself.

Loren. Jamie and Dave are in your neighborhood. I would give both of them a call and see if they have anything.

still got them.... They should have guides checked and quick valve job..

Basically the casting s are 72 350 2bbl heads...They have 1.94 intakes and 1.50 exhaust with a 76 'cc chamber..and some street/pocket porting work done by Dave Storlien of PHR engine masters / Porting Dynamic fame.. Dave is well known locally for coaxing reliable flow from Iron SBC heads. as well as his own design The Aussie "CHI" aluminum SBF heads

These heads in my heavy Chevelle ran 13.90's with mild comp 268 hydraulic and a 750 Holley on crap unleaded regular with these heads. an 11" off the shelf Fairbanks converter on a Turbo 350 and 3.73 gears 26" tall tires..

Have original flow sheet as well..

Hmmm...those would be sweet with a 327. I might have to take a trip tomorrow that is if Loren is not interested.

John, hold off for now. They just became sold (promised and waiting payment), but I will make a waiting list in case that doesn't work out.

I have a nice Holley dual plane intake if ya need a decent one. I've got carbs too- one of them would surely be a decent match.

Not to derail this for Loren... but Scott do you happen to have a 750 cfm carb (preferably with electric choke) you'd like to sell that is in good condition?

My 402 has an Edelbrock 750 cfm (choke plate is wired open...) that is at least 15 years old and needs rebuilt, but I'm not sure if it's worth going through the effort.

Thanks.

Let me look through what I've got. I know I've got one really nice one- not sure exactly what cfm it is. I'll find out.

heads are gone. Loren got a good deal and we got a good lunch with his cash. THANKS!

every once in a while I run into deals like this. I'll keep sharing when they come up (if I don't grab them for myself)

One time we had a set of ZL-1 pistons, rods, and crank. They were the GM Performance ones that were for building a block to the original specs when GM reintroduced the block in the '90s. Wish I would have had the cash then since it all went for pennies.
