So what happened with the 454 that had the bad pushrod from the picnic? Anybody heard if he pulled the engine down to see what was going on.

We'll be installing new pushrods & rockers this Saturday... so we'll see if any others are showing signs of failure, or if it was a fluke with just one that was bad.

(You need the loaner back??)

I will need the loaner back at some point in time. You can give it to bryan when you are done with it if you happen to see him at one of the monthly meetings and I can grab it from him later.

Are you going to check lobe lift to see if the cam is damaged. I thought it still had a miss in it after installing the pushrod?

Yup, we'll be checking (if I can find my "big" dial indicator...). If not, we'll use the "little" one and compare other lobes at the end/top of the lobe.

The miss cleared up on the drive home that day - I'm guessing it was loaded up, and he did find a cooked plug wire.

I was going to say. He definitely had a spark plug boot that was burnt against the header pipe on one cylinder.

Did you guys swap or fix the rearend on that 55 yet? Winter project?

We did find a rear end for the 55, it is out of a 74 nova. Probably won't put it in until spring at this point.

Trying to work on the 396 for his chevelle at the moment. Got it back from the machine shop going to start assembling the short block here soon.

So how did it turn out John, was the cam OK? I would imagine you put some roller rockers on it.

Snafu...
- Craig ordered a set of stock replacement pushrods from the local auto parts store. They arrive, he gets 'em home, opens the box, and they're USED. Some A-hole put their used rods in the box and then returned them - nobody checked and they didn't get caught.
- So, he orders a set from Jegs. They arrive. Come saturday morning I get there and he's got 'em cleaned up, blown out, and oiled... ready to go. Except they're 3/8". The guideplates are 5/16".
- Spend 1-1/2 hours on the 'net & phone trying to find either a set of 3/8" guideplates, or a set of 5/16" pushrods. Nobody's got 'em in stock, or within an hour's drive. The unanimous decision was "Screw This" and go have some lunch.

So, it's still where it was. It's either gonna get new 5/16" pushrods, or new guideplates. I haven't talked to Craig since the weekend.

My suggestion would be to just go to Gary Heddon at Magnum superchargers or Wheeler and just get a set from them if thats the case. This way he knows for sure what he is getting is the stuff he needs.

I needed a set of brand new lifters a few years ago when I had Magnum go through the heads on my 396. I didnt want to deal with the same experience Craig is going through so I just got the set from Gary instead. An engine builder will know exactly what rods he needs.

Really. I thought most people bring a sandwich to work for lunch. Let us know how it tastes.
