Re-tapping a bolt

Is it possible to take a bolt that’s been tapped 3/8 NF And re-tap it 5/16 NF.  This is a special bolt that’s holds a rag joint to the steering column flange.  FLange is made for 5/16 bolts.  One bolt for rag joint is 5/16, the other is 3/8.  The rag joint I am trying to use is from a JGC box where I took the input shaft and put it in my 66 box.

Easiest solution is to drill the flange out to take the 3/8 bolt.

Otherwise, I would see if you can press the bolts out of each ragjoint and reinstall the original ones.

Thanks Derek.  I didn’t want to remove the flange if I didn’t have too.  At your suggested I was able to press  out the 3/8 NF of the JGC rag joint.  The other one is 5/16 NF.  I was able to take a 5/16 NF bolt Of my 66 rag joint and it fit perfectly into the hole of the JGC rag joint.  Everything is good to go, soaking in EvapoRust.
