Pressing problem with my AC

Well Mitch got my AC up and working.  On the way home every so often, about 15 seconds, there was kind of a screeching noise for about 1-2 seconds.I thought it was coming from the compressor, but who knows.  Maybe compressor, or belt, or fan, or something inside thr evaporator.

Sitting in the driveway while car is idling there is no noise.

Deiving dow the road when I tuurn the switch on it s reaches for about 1 second.  With AC switchon and thermostats switch turn on low or med, or max ist screatches about every 15 seconds for about a second, then stops, after 15 more seconds it screeches again, this continues until switch is turned off.  If I turn it on again, the whole sequence repeats itself.

this is under a dealer custom AC for a 1966 chevelle that I believe was a NOS when I bought it a few years ago.  Has not run in 2 years.  R12 leaked out, Mitch added about 20oz.

At first I thought it was the compressor.  Now I  think maybe fan, belt, or something inside the evaporator if that is even possible.  From inside the car when driving I cannot determine where the sound is coming from.  Car is running fine, just took Rachel out for breakfast.  The one thing change from 2 years ago is the a new  belt.  Mitch tightened it, but maybe it needs to be tighten more.  Is there a way to test the fan while in the car?

The screeching is coming from the belt when the compressor clutch engages.  Now to solve the issue. So much for the most expensive AC Delco belt.

I seem to remember wiping the belt with a bar of soap.

I ordered a new belt from Quanta. My previous belt from Quanta worked great no problem until belt was thrown and twisted when alternator belt jumped pulley.  It’s supposed to be 100% correct with cloth wrapped as original. Expensive, hope it works.

Kevin, would the soap tick work on all belts (like PS) to keep them from squealing?  Sound like cleaning the belt to remove any build up of dirt, etc from belt so bel doesn‘t slip on te pulley.

If that power steering belt squeals it’s too loose in my experience.

 Blows air at 40*.  Now I also discovered I have a torn rubber boot on the Console shifter thats letting a lot of hot air in from transmission.

 PS belt doesn’t squeal.  it’s never been an issue.  The Alternator belt jumping a pulley has been an issue, as when it happens it throws the AC and PS belts.  Now 3 belts to replace.
