Thanks for the offer. I know your an expert; but you qualify as a youngster compared to my 78 years. I should have mentioned it is an original Dana as some 66 Chevelle got the Dana unit instead of an Eaton. It’s a 10 bolt and I have a NOS set of clutches by GM. I also have the schematic photos of the patent submitted by the inventor. I am not sure of what was done to the rear assembly around 1997. But the gears were changed from 3:08 or 3:36 to 3:55 with backlash set according to markings.
I would have a friend remove and put the carrier back in. This axel used the single shim on each side. The car was driven at most 3 yrs in AZ from 97-2020. PO here in MM said he only drove it about 300 miles a year from 2020-2018. Hope interior posi gears, etc are good as not available unless you stumble on to some parts, maybe carrier bearings are available.
