Not a chevelle topic; but a GM product.  Any suggestion on how to treat? IMG_0947.JPG Thanks

Since it is underneath,

1) clean it up good,
2) Use some naval jelly to treat any rust pits (in a well ventilated area)
3) scuff the surface really good
4) Apply that black rhino type bedliner to it.

Do you have one of these 1500's?  I hadn't thought of the Naval Jelly, thats what my dad used in the 50's.  I was thinking of something like that, any specific product?  Would sanding with 320 or 220 be good enough?  thanks

Don'T buy CHROME!  Only buy heavy SS boards and only aftermarket.

Somthing like Iron Cross about $200 less than OEM

I had a set of SST nerf bars from Luverne trucking on my 02 trailblazer that were as good as new when I bought them when I traded it in.

The factory boards on my 2016 F150 look similar to the ones in your link, except the rubber tread runs the entire length. I suspect mine are stainless as they are non-magnetic or they could be a composite material for weight reduction.

What year is the truck? If it's fairly new take it back to GM, they may have an extended corrosion warranty,

Dealer never sent in a installation date since I did him a favor and installed them myself.  Also 2 wks past the 36mo warranty. No extended corrosion warranty.

I also had SS nerf bars from Nasta on my 2009 truck, looked like new when I traded in in 2014.  Conclusion, only buy SS and american made aftermarket is the way to go.

You can also get a rust converter product from Permatex called Rust Converter. It is similar to Naval Jelly the n that it chemically stops and converts the rust. It can be painted over.

I am a little unsure of the rust converter, seems it is used when there is 100% rust.  When there is minimal rust, I have read that you should use rust encapsulator (Chrome plating in this case).  I am also thinking about using the rust encapsulator in the upper tray area of my truck.
