My Hot Rod, 67 Chevelle Resto-mod, is going to hit the sales market this spring and I would like to get ideas of good places to advertise it and sell it. Any experiences would be much appreciated as we all have our best guesses.
I have sold cars on Ebay, Craigslist, and a consignment dealer.
Ebay Pro's: huge audience including international Auction format or buy it now. Tool to help you ship the car
Ebay Con's: It's not cheap but they cap it. You can take a $1000 deposit and then do an electronic transfer Sometimes a person will hire an appraiser, but they can be a pain to deal with Lots of times where the buyer can back out and unpaid buyers
Craigslist Pro's: It's free It's easy to list Usually first place people look
Craigslist Con's: Pain in the ass tire kickers. People will low ball you looking to flip your car People make plans and never show up You get a ton of calls from the idiots trying to help you sell your car
Consignment Pro's: It's easy, you drop it off and they sell it You don't have to deal with the title transfer They pay for the advertising
Consignment Con's: It can be expensive You have no control how they are driving your car. In fact they dented mine and weren't going to tell me It takes a long time usually to sell your car this way because they ask high market dollar
This is my opinion only. I would put it up on Ebay. Put it at a 10 day auction and put your reserve. Then at the same time I would list it on Craigslist but be harsh in the add. No help needed selling etc. don't put your phone number. Email then you can send your number. NEVER meet at your house. Always meet them at the store around the corner thing. Lots of stories out there from Craigslist some.dude will come out and act interested. Get the lay of your garage and doors, and then come back and steal it.
Be realistic with your price. Honestly Ebay sets a lot of the market price. Go on EBay first. Search for 67 chevelles. Then on the left hand side of the screen you can select sold listings only. Scroll through those. This will help you know if you will hit your target or if you are realistic.
there is always the big auctions like Meecum too. Though it's costly to get there. They charge 10% selling fee. But with your pro-touring type of car you may do well.
Cheers

Gearlube -- Thanks for taking the time to post a nice list of pros and cons of various options based on your experiences. We can never have too much information about this topic.
judging by the posts we see here a lot of guys look at Craigslist daily the way we used to do the want-ads in the Startrib
The Sunday papers with 4 sections of car ads are long gone.
