Search for work

I have been looking for work since the 10th of Jan and last time I was looking was 20 years ago. I had 3 yes 3 interviews last FRIDAY starting at 8:30am with last interview at 8:30pm. All places were shocked that I showed up despite the weather 5 minutes late for first interview with over 30 wait for HR who thought I wouldn't make it. Of the other positions one was making some REALLY BIG stuff and they are getting a new 100,000 POUND forklift to load parts to machine. The last interview was at a place with some really good benefits and perks that go bangaknana but hours that prevent weekend fun for the most part. That was my interview after passing screening tests for their company hope to hear back from them this week now for physical and drug test.

I was shocked at some of the places that require testing before hand, while tests for basic math, reading, writing,I can understand some other questions threw me off guard.

A recruiter called me in and had me test and test questions evolved around theft of money and property, how well I can fight, how often I fight, how many fights a week, how many fights at home and work. Other questions involved what drugs I do, how often I do drugs, what type of drugs I do, how much of the drugs I can do at work and still function. All I can say is wow how the work force has changed.

Pentagon data shows that 75 percent of the nation's 17- to 24-year-olds are ineligible for service for a variety of reasons.

Put another way, only 4.7 million of the 31.2 million 17- to 24-year-olds in a 2007 survey are eligible to enlist, according to a periodic survey commissioned by the Pentagon. This group includes those who have scored in the top four categories on the Armed Forces Qualification Test, or AQFT; eligible college graduates; and qualified college students.

A year ago in July, I had to pick up a shipment at the YRC Frieight place in Owatonna. The place was buzzing. I commented to the foreman how busy they were and he said they can't find enough people to keep up with the work. The young guys feel it's beneath them to work there and/or drive truck. And the ones who want the job can't pass a drug test. Pretty sad.

One of the places I wanted to get in was in Maple Plain building lasers for firearms and testing them as well on the firearm at the range. They didn't want to pay anything for all that they wanted and had been looking since Nov for a person. Recruiter called me for a place close to home but taking a $20,000 pay cut with no OT was not an option no matter how close to home it was. Places look at the Resume and see the skill sets are all broad based but I am not specialized in any specific type CNC machine, swiss, Mazak, lathe or mill. Plus it does not help education is not in machining it is Sales Management Marketing and Plastics Technology.

Working near where I live? If so, I know several people who have gone there over the years.

Congratulations Dave!  It's great to find a job in this economy but getting a job that you enjoy is a huge bonus! Sounds like you'll fit right in there.

Wife is still unaware of company store and the benefits there. If Derek has a club event at his place I may need to bring down some things from the company store, it would be of various sizes of course.
