Saw this on MN Garage Geeks website.  Anyone up for buying a new Chevelle placed between the Corvette and Camaro?

I like the idea, and seeing things like that give me hope BUT......

it's going to be a smaller segment and to fit within the current lineup I think the Chevelle will not be what we think it should be. You have the Corvette, Caprice (Police), SS, Impala, Camaro, and so on down the line past the Malibu, Volt, Sonic, Cruze, Spark. My hope is that it may replace the Malibu (sounds convenient to me) and they offer an SS or other performance model. At least then it would fit into the same place in the lineage as it once did though I think the performance version would only be a slight engine upgrade and probably no suspension upgrade. Hopefully I'm wrong on those 2 points but this ain't the 60s and 70s.

I'm thinking expansion in the "SS" line. The SS is cool, but it's a new launch and will be limited to loaded up models for the first year or so. If they offer a stripped version, I can see where they'd want to differentiate it from the top-line SS....so, a Chevelle nameplate would make strategic sense....especially if the SS remains the top dog in the line. Chevelle and Chevelle SS would seem a natural move - more than the Caprice and Impala SS were, but close. The mid-size placement of the SS suits the Chevelle name as well.

Whether they're planning to use it or not, trademarking the name makes good corporate sense just to protect it for future ideas.

I agree with Scott though, the SS line is where the name would fit best, but IMHO, it seems GM specifically tried to avoid using the Chevelle name when they called that car the "SS"

I just noticed something while working that might add some fuel to the fire: The Malibu was built on the Z chassis line from 2004-2012, now it is a G chassis in 2013 (Same as the 2014 Impala for what it's worth, that was a W chassis in 2013). I know the 2012 Camaro is an E chassis, which is also what the 2013 Caprice is. The shuffling is partly due to new chassis' being developed, but the models that seem to share platforms are intriguing.
