2012 Last Drive, Well Maybe
Permalink

Today I took the Buick out for one more drive, finally fixed the little miss that I’ve been struggling with all summer. One of those misses the passenger might not even notice if I didn’t mention it. However, I knew it was there and wanted it fixed before pulling the engine preserving it and putting it in long-term storage.

Jon H stopped by to pick-up a part so we took a quick, ‘quick’ becomes the operative word here, ride to check out his new transmission. Choirboy Jon who is always busting my chops for rolling stop signs and other advisory signs turns a corner and does a the first acceleration demo. First thing I notice is how fast his car goes sideways, but he got it to hook-up, as he accelerated into the triple digit numbers I thought, he had better not bust my ba!!s at stop signs any more.

Jon’s new engine transmission set-up is sweet lots of power, nice cruise manners and he should see an improvement in MPG. We had a great burger for lunch; received many looks on the way back to my place at about 1330.

Then I took the Buick out again running down to Stan’s to pick-up a part, I even had Angie drive it a little; hated to put it away, today was probably the last drive of 2012 but it is the fifth of December.

I saw the 3 on the speed limit sign and thought that meant triple digits. Eagan city streets are straight and wide so I just assumed............I guess you shouldn't put two retired guys together, it is a recipe for trouble.

Both, I was able to make one good carb out of two bad ones, that fixed fuel scheduling and starting. Then out of frustration I set the high tech timing light aside and just cranked the distributor left, and right setting the timing by ear and vacuum gauge. When I put the light back on it, it showed I had set the timing back 15 degrees, so it looks like the dampener slipped. It’s running like a top now, I just wish the little engine had more power.

It was cool having a car pull in my driveway and actually being able to hear it.  Even if it was a ****ed off hornet sounding V6!  thumbsup

Watching Kevin pull out of the drive way with his vert gave me thoughts of getting mine out of CAC, even though I know it will be awhile...

Jon-Sounds like you are enjoying the benefits of a 200-4R, but I disagree with Kevin that you will get better mileage, because you'll be on the loud pedal even more with it working that well!  razz

Rain today, snow tomorrow and Sunday??  Just traded  a rim and 3 others to a guy from Waterloo yesterday for an original 66 chevelle AM/FM. Kind of a 67 guy, he has 7 of them and a 67 427 vette.  Then pulled MC, so looks like I am done until spring.

Jim, looks like the weatherman missed the forecast by a day, I think we could sneak in one more drive.

By the way I did give Jon an acceleration demo in the Buick yesterday, I don’t think he noticed.

More like an out of tune chain saw, similar to one of the late V6 Camaros.
