The underside of a domed 1972 hood.

I am assuming that all the hoods were painted black.  Do restoration suppliers have the correct paint available?

The insulation that is on the hood,  Was that a standard feature or an option?  Is that material also available?  Especially in kit form.

It should be either a semi-gloss or satin black, not sure which. The insulation should be available as a pre-cut kit. I bought mine for my '69 from Hinshaw's. http://www.hinshawschevelle.com/

Eastwood has a Chassis Satin Black that comes in a spray can or quart. It is supposed to be very close to the correct color if not the correct color. There are alot of people who use paint from Auto Zone that is in a spray can. The name escapes me now but I'm sure someone will chime in.

The stuff from Eastwood takes a bit to cure but it is real nice for cleaning once it is dry.

I used Krylon #1613 semi gloss black in good old fashioned spray paint. It looks really nice actually. It was a trick I learned from some resto guys on Team Chevelle. The only catch is, it doesnt stand up to chemicals. Its been almost 10 years now since I did this so its very possible the part number has changed but they do still make it.

Rob, I need to  do my hood underside too, so will watch this post.

I've used the Eastwood Chassis Black that Tim referred to, and it is good stuff, but don't get it on your skin as it will have to wear off because nothing I used would take it off.  I guess that's why it's so durable.

For the hood insulation, any of the main catalog companies carry it; NPD, Ground Up, Year One, etc.  I would guess that Auto City Classics in Blaine might also carry it in stock.
