Good article on Rust Removal, author claims better, faster, & cheaper than blasting cabinet

Ive tried that before with Arm & Hammer Washing Soda. Its an intresting process and it actually works. Parts dont come out of the solution all shiny and new looking and sometimes, its hard to tell. But it did work.

There was an old episode of Trucks on Powerblock on Spike where one of the hosts, Kevin, did this exact same thing with the same Arm & Hammer product.

Jim, this has been brought up before so hate to burst your bubble. When precision Restorations were in town this is how they did it and it worked well for many years. If you have a large enough tank you can do the same thing with Sulfuric acid diluted at a 50% ratio. A problem with these things is that electrical contact always is lost and you need to monitor it closely or it just sits. As Chris said parts do not come out shiney and they flash rust instantly in the air.

A lengthey article; but it address all your issues Dave. Even talks about saftey and disposal, along with electrical contact, how to clean and deal with flash rust. Much better than those short you tube video's etc. I was at the Precision Restorations meeting. Their explaination was not much more than we use electricity to strip rust. After reading this, I feel most anyone would know what to do.

I should also mention that when I tried it. The process didnt take hours. It took days. Its a neat process but if you dont have the pateince or cant wait that long. Its not worth it. It really isnt all that practicle. At least using the solution I used with the Arm & Hammer.

Chris, the higher the PH and amperage the faster it works. If you added an ultrasonic cleaning system into the process it would be done in a day.
