I re-painted and assembled my dash and dash pad awhile ago, and had it sitting on my bench waiting to get put back into the car. Last night I knocked it onto the floor, cracking my original dash pad in 2 spots . I've heard the repo pads fit terrible, but I'm wondering about the dash cap overlays that glue over the top of an original pad. I search Team Chevelle and there was 1 guy who used one, and thought they looked good, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen one used?
I've got 3 original pads (70-72 stereo) that have cracks I could use, just looking for a cheap way to make it look better.
Not sure how much you are wanting to spend, but CTI by Fred (Doing my interior and convertible top) will overlay them with armor cloth, vinyl, etc (not sure of material choices). Won't necessarily look exactly like original, but will look very close and last a long time. If you are interested in talking with him about it, his number is 763-442-5229.
Thanks Loren, I might give them a call for a price. I see "just dashes" does restoration also, but it sounds like they get $400-$800, way out of my price range. I'll keep my eyes open for another original too.
