Looks like I will need a TH350 or Power Glide drive shaft for the 200-4R swap I want to do since the TH400 drive shaft I have is too short.

Anyone have an extra one lying around they want to get rid of/sell?

I will be selling the TH400 trans w/high stall converter and driveshaft soon if anyone's interested.  It's set up tight and chirps the tires on all shifts even at 1/2 throttle!

WHy not have the d-shaft cut and rebalanced? Clutch and U-joint can do that and it's pretty cheap.

Can they lengthen them also?  It's too short, not too long.

I think so, have to ask them. If they can't and you can't find one, there's several places that can make one. Proven Force, maybe Catco, Denny's driveshafts, etc.

What are 'Clutch' and 'U-Joint's full business names so that I can search for them?  I looked at the business cards below and didn't see them.  I'm not familiar with either one.  Thanks.

You can't lengthen a driveshaft, but you can have the ends cut off and welded to a new tube.

I usually have my driveshaft work done at CATCO.

Thanks Derek.  The only end I would keep is the axle end yoke as I need to change the front yoke for the 200-4R which is the same spline count as a TH350 or PG.

Stan-
I might have one from a '72 Monte with a TH350.  I can look in my storage shed if you're interested.  When I put a 700r4 in my Chevelle I looked at having mine cut & shortened, but decided to order Denny's driveshaft Heavy Duty version.   With the extra RPM's of an overdrive tranny I didn't want to worry about it acting like a jump rope.

Denny's Driveshaft

Thanks Steve.  I'm certainly interested if you could look for it and measure it.  I think it needs to be somewhere around 57" or so from the center of the yokes.

The TH400 shaft I have is 54 1/2" long at the yoke centers, which is too short.

Thanks in advance.

Stan

I believe we still get a Club discount at Catco (via Charlie M).

Craig S. had his work done by them. I think he went to the store on Cty 13 in Burnsville.

Call them ahead of time and talk to the "driveshaft guy". In my experience, each guy has a certain way of having you measure for length.

I dug out the one from the Monte. Its almost 57" (56 7/8 approx.) from end to end. About 55 1/2" from the center of each u-joint cap. If that's the one you need you're welcome to it. I will PM you my cell number if you want any more measurements, etc.

I've got my old one from the wagon- back when it had a PG. You're welcome to it if you come and get it.

It's plenty long!
