Northstar Chevelles Club show/picnic

OK, I have a date and place, now all we need is more people! We have been invited as a club to a private car show/picnic. Since this as a club event, I would like as many of us to go as possible. It's being put on by our newest member Chris P.

August 28th, 3pm. The location is on the northern border of Cambridge (basically straight north of Blaine on hwy 65 about 1/2 hour). It is private property with plenty of parking on very short grass. It's a nice setting for nice cars. Pig roast and beverages provided, but we need more side dishes and desserts to share. We will have a large garage with tables and space to be out of the sun. Extra chairs would help too.

Families are more than welcome, kids too. There will be yard games, tractor/hay rides, maybe even a pick-up game of burnout..... If you need to trailer your car, not a problem, there's room to park and unload.

RSVP to Bryan F (bowtie) 612-296-4069 or message me through here or at President@northstarchevelles.com, the directions won't be published here on the net. I will give them to you. We'll probably set up a meeting spot in Blaine so we can all drive up together, though it is easy to get to.

Here's some pics from past years picnics I attended at the same place:

Let's make this a great event and have a huge turnout-even bigger than Car Craft!

We'll call it Blaine Sports Center to Cambridge area officially. I know that's short, but some guys might have an hour or more just to get up to there. If there's anyone on your way up, stop by and meet with them. Make it a chain link cruise-farthest guys meet up with next farthest who are on the way, etc.

ie: group meets in somewhere say Lakeville for example (Karls shop?), then they run up to somewhere say St Louis Park meeting up with western and southwest people, then they run up to Blaine and meet up with the northern group. Same can be done for east side people. Just a thought.

I live in Coon Rapids so I would be handling the northern section, My morning is already tied up so I can't do much before 1-1:30-ish.

It's too early in the year to call it a fall cruise. There needs to be some colorful foliage involved before we can do that. I am looking forward to the picnic/show.

O.k. Mr. Picky...  let's call it a 'late summer' cruise picnic!  biggrin

Sounds like fun.  It's the same day as the Dakota Co. fairgrounds show, but I'd rather hang out with you bums and your families!  Count my wife and I in.

I like the idea of the chain link convoy for us coming up from the south.  Karl's would make a great meetup place in Lakeville right on I35 north (Crystal Lake Automotive).  There's an OReilly's right next to his shop if we needed to meet up in the parking lot there too.

Call it what you want I changed the title to read club show/picnic :)

There's another member who signed up at Car Craft who will also most likely be there, his name is Chad. He has the 69 getting a big block built by Chris P. He's been to this in the past with his tri-5 chev, along with Steve who has that 67 silver pro-street car. My wife and kids will be coming too. There's horses to see, but there won't be any riding.

I'll offer my place as a Southern/Western hookup point - I'm very near the Fuddruckers @ 394 & Louisiana Ave in St. Louis Park.

I've added a link to info on the website, including directions to my place for the "Western/Southern" members if they want to hook up there on the way.

Brian, have you determined the Blaine meet up spot and emailed directions to the final destination?  I searched my email and can't find anything.  Please resend if you already did.

Thanks,

Stan

John D put the directions on the member's only section on the main website (green pages) under picnic info.

Northside meetup will leave at 2pm at the White Castle on the NE corner of 93rd and Central Ave (Hwy 65) in Blaine. It's just north of Hwy 10 and easy to see. (Baline Sports Center has a couple things going on and is harder to find.)

That would be great Derek.  I was going to throw that out there too.  Maybe we could head over to Crystal Lake Auto (Karl's) and meet up with anyone else from the south there.

I'm guessing we need to leave my house around 1 p.m. to get to the Blaine meet up before 2 p.m.

I edited the "Picnic Info" on the website, and included a map link for White Castle.

I'm still planning to leave my house @ 1:30.
I don't think there'll be any problem for the "Western & Southern" crew to make it from my place in St. Louis Park to Blaine in 1/2 hour.

OK, Looks like We have Stan and John D with people in-tow. Anyone not going with them, please let me know if you're meeting at the WC in Blaine or going directly, just so we know who would get left behind if we don't see them at 2.

Helen and I are planning to make it to the picnic. We have had a busy summer and it is coming to an end much to soon. We'll be trailering the chevelle and will probably go direct.

Had a great time today.  The Chevelle ran great, we got to see a lot of NCCr's, Chris was a great host, this time it was someone elses turn to break down and Craig's pushrod was swapped out in minutes to get him going again, and saw some squirly asphalt paving done by a blown '69 orange Chevelle.  It doesn't get much funner than that!  biggrin

Got home a little after 9 p.m., and it's time for a shower and beer thirty after the hot ride in the car!  wink

Just rolled in ourselves - was a little nervous for the first 25 or so miles as it was "bambi time", but no problems.

Craig managed to mushroom the ball-end of #1's exhaust pushrod down at the lifter - just wiped it out. Weird... as the car ran fine all the way up there, and the problem surfaced when we were moving things around for photos.

The pushrods aren't the "performance" type with a hardened ball welded on a length of tube. It's just tube, with the tip swedged into a rounded end. The end was just flattened/mushroomed/hammered. Chris managed to come up with a pushrod and it was swapped in minutes. He also had an LED on a flex-stick light, and we checked the lifter through the hole. The retainer and cup were intact.

Was a great time... kids, dogs, horses, hay-rides, and great chow!
