Upcoming Autocross events!

Scott, get that dang engine in so you can get some seat-time before RTTH. wink
John D, don't worry about a posi, get out there and have some fun... you won't regret it.

Sunday August 1st is the Corvettes of Minnesota autocross at DCTC in Rosemount. The date conflicts with a big SCCA event in Milwaukee, so that means you've got some time to get signed up, as all the "serious" guys are out of town. The COM events are more big-car friendly than the typical autocross layouts. biggrin

Saturday, August 14th is the Austin-Healy Hillclimb event (way cool!!!) at Afton Alps in Hastings.

I'm going to be doing some serious arm-twisting this weekend. furious

I was considering doing it with the Chevelle too.... but my wife probably won't want to drive that again. :)

BTW, I don't think they'll let you run "Novice" in the Street-Tire index class... Novice has no PAX index, so you'd be better off either just running Novice, or picking the appropriate class for the car and running in that. Street-tire Index is a very competitive class, and it takes a class-competitive car and a good driver to do well there. That's why I don't run it. biggrin

I'd probably recommend signing up for "Novice" for your first couple events. I know you'd be legal in CP, but just about anything is legal in CP.

I tried to check out the classes and got slapped with a huge 404 error so they are missing that page. I'm sure they will rearrange me. :)

DK, do you know about how many runs do you get in at the Austin-Healy Hillclimb event?

That I don't know... I'd guess it to be just like an ordinary autocross with around 6 runs.

Info on the hillclimb: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2791/4504784936_fb00fe851b_b.jpg

Looks like 4 runs minimum, more if there's enough time. smile

I just want to get mine running again. Once it's lit and dialed in, we'll talk about beating it up again!

Soo.... are you addicted yet? biggrin That was a fun course to drive today, I've never driven a course that FAST! I think some of the 'vettes were hitting 80mph in a couple places.

Both Addicted and embarrassed. I had a run of 1:11 on one run with like 2 cones. :(

I had a total of 16 cones for the day. Ugh. I got exactly 6 runs in and no more, some of my other Ford guys got 8 or 9..

Ah well, was a good day to learn! Nice to see you again and watch your awesome driving skills!

No reason to be embarrassed, you did well for your first time out.

6 runs is what everyone was supposed to get, but there were a lot more timing issues than normal, so a lot of people got re-runs (I got 1 extra)

I don't know if I'd call my driving "awesome" confuse I'm still leaving at least a second on most courses.

Either way I am going to have to turn the boost down from 21lbs on my Cobra. I think that's a bit much and the throttle was either on or off, so that didn't help me be smooth. :)

Now to get my Chevelle to handle like that..... :P

Results are posted (click "event results" near the bottom of the page)

http://myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmClubDetail.Show?psCLUB_ID=153

I think I might have been hosed out of a class win by a timing issue... not going to bitch though. We both had "best runs" of 1:08.3s, and his 1:06 was displayed as a 42.xxx on the board, and I was the next car on, also scoring a 42.xxx. I was given a re-run due to timing issues, and he was not. I think the beams were broken somehow before he got to the finish, then broken again by him to give me the wrong time on my run, then I broke them for the guy behind me...

Oh well...
