Had a good morning.  Here's what I was able to get done so far on the 'might as well while it's up on stands' projects:

-Removed Bungy's loaner transmission so that I can swap in the rebuilt one this week

-Removed old exhaust system

-Removed and replaced shocks

-Removed bench seat and carpet to get ready for new carpet and running the reverse light wiring to the trans

-Removed and replaced header gaskets while the exhaust was disconnected (I reused old gaskets when the motor was pulled a few weeks ago and I had some leaks...)

So, now I need to scuff up and paint some of the underside, reinstall the trans, and install the new Pypes system.

I'm ready for a nap!  smile

Well I feel like a turd.  After putting a new gas tank in and fuel lines from tank to the carb, I stalled out on motivation.  I just need to install the trunk battery kit and starter and that has been three weeks now.

Just think John, today is the first day of summer.  And we all know what's coming  after the days start getting shorter now...

That's why I'm so motivated to get the Chevelle back on the road.  It just kills me when the days are nice and I can't drive it!  furious

You have to stop thinking like that. Damn man. Its the 1st day of summer. Your already saying its coming to and end. Damn it just got here. Cut that out. Be Happy its finally here. That kind of attitude will Kill you. Stand up and Cheer . Look on the bright side. Not the down side. long summer nights. Time to sit outside with a nice cold one. look at the stars. Hear a Harley or big BBC off in the distance. Hell your talking like were getting snow next week or something. ITS SUMMER!!  YAHOOOOOOOOO :)  a

When I moved to MN 10 years ago... everybody joked about summer being 2 weeks long.  I'm starting to buy into that!  Besides, what are you celebrating for... you're moving out of here to the SW!  Oh I get it, that IS why you're celebrating!  biggrin

I've attached some pics of the Chevelle blown apart.

Picked up the trans from Bungy tonight (looks good, shift levers move smoothly, and the input shaft feels solid), so will scuff/paint and hopefully stab in the trans tomorrow night!

Okay you guys guilted into moving forward. Skipped the trunk mount battery setup for now and cut off the cheap battery lug and crimped on a nice copper one for the starter connection. 

I forgot what pita these Hooker super comps headers are and starter bolts plus getting the shim in. evileye

Boosted the battery and the starter turns over the engine without hesitation.  Time to charge the battery up, remount the trans shield, get a battery tray and get some gas to fire it up. Maybe this weekend.smile

How did the floor paint turn out?

Ricky FYI

It has snowed every month in Minnesota except July so yep summer is almost over. I can't wait to get my new orange snowmobile out!

It looks good.  The main part I wanted to get painted were the outside of the frame rails that had a bunch of green overspray.  I'm taking the plastic sheeting off tonight, so I'll really know how it turned out then.  I'll post some 'after' pics.  Glad I took your advise on the respirator!!! 

My young Navy buddy helped me stab in the trans last night, and tonight I hope to get the exhaust installed, and maybe some of the new carpet if I have time.  Hoping for a test drive tomorrow night or Friday a.m.!

Leave it to the Armed Forces to lend a hand. Just looking at your young Navy buddy makes me think that he is probably a Navy SEAL. I bet he threw that tranny in all by himself and told you to stand down!

Yeah, with his Popeye arms he bumped me out of the way and one handed it in all by himself!  wink

Got quite a bit done tonight:

-Painted cross member
-Filled trans with fluid
-Reinstalled driveshaft
-Roughed in the exhaust (Chris-It went relatively well except the hanger instructions were extremely vague.  Otherwise, the fit of the pipes is good and the X pipe fell right where it needed to behind the trans tail shaft without any cutting!)

I finally stopped about 9 o'clock when I reached a point in the exhaust where I need to do some cutting on the collector extensions, so I stopped before I got myself into trouble.  As I've gotten older... I've learned when to stop.  Otherwise, I rush and do a crappy job.  It usually turns out much better when I take my time.  So, I'll finish the extensions tomorrow night and clamp everything up.  Then I can install the carpet and seat, and give it a test!

 Good to hear. I hope its this easy for the 64-67 kits.
