Construction started Monday and will finish today. My cousin's company MinnSolar is installing a 19.4kw system on the roof of the shop, with the inverters, controls, and a battery backup in the house. 60 panels at 400w each will cover the whole South-facing roof of the shop.
It will go live in a couple weeks after the electrical inspector signs off on it.
VERY nice !! Perfect location and covering the entire roof lets the panels blend right in, instead of a partial looking piece meal. This should reduce, or even eliminate, your electric bills.
Looks like those poor guys had to hand dig that entire trench ??

Yeah, I like the way it blends in. It's not really even noticeable from the road, unless you're looking for it.
Most months I should get a check from the power company instead of me paying them. It will produce a little more than what I need.
I wasn't home when they dug the trench, but they did have a trencher there. I know they hand dug about 10' on each end, and around the other underground lines for gas/water/electric/septic.

It will be interesting to see after a year what the cost/return is on the system.
They have appeared to have done a neater job than most contractors I have seen of late.
Do you use electric to heat your house or shop?

It should pay for itself in about 6 years, but if energy prices keep rising, it will be faster than that. I signed the contract this spring just before prices on the system rose about 30% so I timed it well.
My heat is LP.

After the system being turned on for 1 week, I've produced 120% of the power I have consumed, and that include 10kw to charge the battery, 4 days of low production with clouds and snow, only 3 good days of bright sunshine, and running an electric heater for most of the week in the small garage because the furnace was acting up. Days are still getting shorter, so the next couple months will be low production, but I'm pretty excited to see the meter running backwards. :)
