Is there something you have to do to be able to run a OEM Tack like the KK tack used in the 66 chevelle If you have a HEI ignition system? I currently have a SunPro tack from 1997 that a PO installed in the Blue Chevelle. I have an extra original KK tack in the drawer. I would like to use the KK tack if possible. And then also be able to use it with the old distributor style ignition or an electronic ignition like Pertronix.

Will follow this closely as the white Elky is now set up for a Knee Knocker, but not yet wired.

Never had a factory tach on a 66 but I did wire a factory tach on a 69 Chevelle to an HEI and it worked just fine. Not sure why it wouldn't work it is triggering off the coil and the only thing that would be slightly different is the voltage level to a points coil will be slightly lower then a HEI due to the resistance wire in the harness feeding the coil. But other wise a coil is a coil and it works the same. Just my 2 cents take it for what it is worth.

I have 3 cars with Pertronix electronic conversions or all new distributors and all 3 have tachometers wired just like a points set up and no issues.

So Mitch, are the new distributors HEI? Are the tacks OEM tacks from back in the 60's or like an Old Sun Pro tack in My blue chevelle that was made in 1997 ( thats the date stamped On the back of the Tack). You probably have a KK tack in the 66 Is it an original tack or a reproduction?
This article seems to indicate that only the HEI distributors from around 1975 to 1990 cause this interferance. hei-tachometer-signal-filter

The Pertronix distributors are electronic, the COIL is HEI...45,000 volts. My tachs are aftermarket and newer than 1997 The tach in my '66 is a newer Sun replica. No experience with an aftermarket tach and an OEM, large body HEI. I don't care for them, as I replaced the pickup coils in MANY back in the repair business days and, to me, they look out of place on a 60's engine...

Plan is to replace HEI distributor this winter. I was just thinking about installing the KK tack now. I agree that Large body HEI looks out of place.
