Anyone planning to go to Good Guys in Des Moines this July?

I would like to go as a friend from Lake City is going. My concern is about security of the car at nights. What happened at St Paul a few years ago has given me concern. What do you guys do that haven gone in the past? Thanks

If you get a room at 1 of the preferred hotels, some of them provide security to patrol the lot during the night. There are usually people around most of the time too.
I'm considering it, but really have no idea what my summer schedule will be like. I'll have the Chevelle back by then, but probably not together enough for a road trip. I could take the '38 again...
OR, I stay here and haul it to Street Machines.

I'm staying at a hotel about 15 miles out in a suburb. I know it can happen anywhere, but I'd be more nervous about it downtown.
Last year I took the enclosed trailer and parked it inside at night, but this year I plan to drive down.

I'm guessing SMN's will be cancelled due to the state fair being cancelled, so might go to this one instead.
Here's an additional Covid statement on their website:
In the light of the developing coronavirus pandemic, Goodguys Rod & Custom Association and its host venues across the country are working together to implement additional protocols and procedures at our events in an effort to promote and protect the health and safety of all of our event attendees.
We will be implementing additional and easily accessible sanitization/hand washing stations throughout each venue and disposing of trash more frequently throughout each day.
Additionally, we are urging our event attendees to implement personal responsibility by washing their hands for 20 seconds or longer several times throughout the day, using hand sanitizing products as necessary, avoiding touching your eyes, nose & mouth, trying to avoid as much direct contact with other attendees as possible, covering their mouth with a tissue when coughing and then disposing of the tissue properly and avoiding attending an event if you are currently sick.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will work with our venues to regularly review our health & safety practices in alignment with the CDC. For more information on the prevention & treatment of the coronavirus, please visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html
Sincerely,
Goodguys Rod & Custom Association
If it looks like it will be a social free for all, probably won't go.
We have family in Des Moines I can stay with, and it's only a 4 hour freeway drive from the North metro, but will be HOT without AC in the car.

Our whole group already paid for non-refundable hotel rooms, so we're having beers in the hotel parking lot whether there's a show or not.

Given the circumstances under which the show would cancel, I would think there would be a recourse for refund, especially if you used a cc, which is most likely.
My wife had pre-paid for rooms and tickets to quilt events that have cancelled and her cc company reimbursed with no questions, when she stated they were cancelled due to the pandemic.

I'm not sure if we'll be able to... still waiting to see if the show will go on before we get too concerned about it.
We booked through Travelocity I think, and they weren't issuing refunds for anything more than 30 days in advance.

Just received this email. Sounds like Des Moines is still on at this point:
To our Members and Supporters,
As we enter the month of June, we know that many of you have questions surrounding our upcoming July event schedule. While we are still unable to provide complete details, here is what we can tell you:
We are actively preparing to move forward with all of our currently scheduled July events.
We have received positive communications and updates from our host venues and anticipate positive news to move forward with many, if not all, of our July events; however, we are still waiting on the official approvals from state, county and/or local governing agencies.
RE: Des Moines, IA and Columbus, OH - Our events team is working with venue management at both sites to work towards hosting successful events at both locations. Any changes, cancellations or updates with these events will be made no later than June 17, 2020. We understand that you may need to make the best decision possible for your company, and that decision may have to be made before June 17.
We will continue to monitor the statuses of our later July events including Salt Lake City, UT and Puyallup, WA and will provide an update in the coming weeks when we have more definitive information.
Once we receive approval to produce an event, we will provide specific local market details on all health and safety parameters that will be implemented for each specific event.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work with state, county and local officials to gain the approvals needed to produce a healthy and safe event. In anticipation of a return to producing our events, we have created our Goodguys Cares Health & Safety Guidelines for both Event Attendees and Exhibitors to help you prepare for participating in a Goodguys event:
