Excavator came out and stripped the top soil so the ground can freeze next week. He is hoping to get his trucks in the backyard with sand for the pad. He also stripped off the grass to build a driveway off the parking area in front of the existing building. He has been delayed several weeks because of the non-stop friggen rain. He says the best we can hope for at this point, is for the ground to freeze hard enough to drive trucks on, as it's too late in the year to expect it to dry out...

Not up to me, Larry. Excavator needs to bring in a LOT of sand for the pad before the contractor can erect the building. It's all in mother natures hands.

Excavator showed up at the crack of dawn Monday and got the partail drive in and most of the sand for the pad.
He was back at 8 am yesterday and finished it by 10. I parked my trailer and lawn tractor on it and sent this pic to the building contractor. Told him he better hurry with the building, cause I was already filling it up...
He'll be here tomorrow and we'll stake it out for the drilling crew. Once the holes are drilled, we need to get the inspector out to approve them and then the building goes up...

I need to figure out what I want to do with the approach to my shop for next Spring.

The rock right off the blacktop is 4-6" "break rock", is what they called it, about 8" deep. The larger rock gives more footing on the soft ground. There is a layer of class 5 over that, to make the path smoother. The larger rock was needed to support the weight of the trucks and to try to prevent the blacktop from breaking off. it did crack some, but nothing like it would have without the 6" of rock as support. If you aren't planning on driving anything but cars back there, 3-4" of class 5 should hold the weight, but I would recommend having the sod scrapped off before the rock is laid down.
Wick rep was just here and we set the building corner markers. Material should be here next Wednesday and a building up by the end of that week...yep, kind of excited, right now...

The crew was going to wait and start next Monday, but the forecast is for very cold weather, so they want it done this week.
Floor will just be gravel. This is a shell for storage, no windows, or utilities. The existing building will be the shop. It has a concrete floor and 240 volt, 100 amp service. It's going to take a fair amount of work and funding to get the sliding front doors replaced with an overhead and then finished and insulated for heat. HOPEFULLY, I can get all that done over the summer, but it depends on funding too. We don't have a mortgage on this place, but it ate a considerable chunk out of our savings to purchase and then go immediately into this project.
I'm told I better plan on working for Centerline until I have recovered the cost of this building...

Looks like the snow cooperated and didn't drop as much as we had. It will be a stress reliever to get the project done.

We only got about 1", but it turned the roads into skating rinks. County Rd F was closed south of me, thru the Kinni river valley, and one of the crew had to backtrack to get around it.
Only 13 degrees this morning. They weren't here at the crack of dawn, like yesterday. Probably waiting for it to warm up a little.

The 2 man crew thought they would be done today, but the cold mornings slowed them down a little and 1 of them had to leave at noon today, so the other has to come back tomorrow and install the end wall tins.
Entire ridge is clear urethane for light inside. There are no windows and no lights...yet.

It needs 4" of gravel and compaction before I can put the 4 post lifts and cars in and the gravel isn't coming today. MAYBE late next week, after the cold Tuesday, Wednesday. Every day that goes by with the friggen early cold spell, puts the chance of getting it ready for lift and vehicle storage further out of range...
Damn weather has sucked from the day we signed the purchase agreement on this place and I was in contact with builders.

They go up quick and this was only 2 guys ! They would have had it done in 3 days, but one of them left at noon Friday and the other was here for 5 hours Saturday to finish it.

Excavator brought in the gravel yesterday. I really like the limestone with the Ivory side walls.
I rented a plate compactor this morning to pack it down tight, but it was already quite stiff. The temp stayed above freezing overnight, but the ground was frozen under it, so I guess it froze the gravel too. 2 hours of hammering on it with the compactor made it very firm. No "after" pics of today. I already moved the travel trailer inside and will put the first lift in on Monday. The overhead door is scheduled to go in on Tuesday and the second lift might be in thither way, so I'll wait for the door to be done.
I retrieved my lift from John, after the excavator was done, so it's here, but I need to fab some reinforcement plates for the reservoir tank, I ripped off while loading it at the old place.

Sure went up fast: nice to get that project behind you so quickly so you have storage close to home. Do you have electric power in the building? Or, what do you use to power your lifts?

No power this year, but will look at that next summer. I have 200 ft of high amp extension cord to power the lifts for now.

Derek, it's 30X48x13, 12X12 overhead door. Should have made it 56' deep for the lifts inline. I had planned to put the lifts on the left side, but there isn't enough length left to get the cars lined up. I can angle the lifts away from the wall, but the front lift protrudes into the door opening too much to get anything else past it. The only place that will work is straight in the door and then, it looks like, I STILL can't get past them for anything else. They will, most likely, need to be side by side on the back wall. Once the door is on and I can start messing with locations, I'll know for sure, but it isn't looking good for inline placement right now.
