Well it’s in the garage for inspection and evaluation. Plan is to drive it for a year. Then decide on its future. Looks pretty good underneath. Trying to figure out the engine as it doesen’t want to idle below 1100.
Casting 3970010 which comes back as a 302 69 Camaro Z/28, or a 69 327 truck block, or a 69-80 350. It’s a Fremont Z5112314 V0510TKB. So think it might be 350. Anyone know what the TWK stands for?Not sure want the heads are. is there an external way to identify them? Corvette 327 valve covers I think.
3 speed automatic, how do I identify that? Here are some photos. All body bushings appear original with part #’s as well as bolts. I think one repaint on the frame.
Is it twk or tkb ? T typically stands for truck engine so I suspect it is a 350 engine. If you pull a valve cover you can get the casting number from the head to see what they are. The two links below give the suffix codes of what the engine came out of.
Looks like a truck block , 165 hp from 1976. That fits. It has an edelbrock intake. I guess I will pull a valve cover to check the casting number of the head.

Sorry TKB. Well it looks like the heads are 14022601. It has roller rockers. It doesn't want to idle very well unless you have the throttle set so idle is at 1100 rpm. Owner said he only maybe ran a tank of gas through it each year for the last 15 or so years. About 4000 miles the last 19 years. It has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, wires, and supposedly a good distributor. It has an Edelbrock carb and Intake. I guess it time to get the timing light out. But no Idea of what cam. I suspect a different one than what it came with and maybe different valves. Original axel was a 308:1 posi; but I think it has an open with 355:1 gears now.
Maybe some MMO. Hope to get it back together today and drive it some this fall.

14022601 are HO305 heads. They have 1.84 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves typically but have small 58 cc chambers so they bump the compression up on a 350 engine. Was pretty common to swap those heads on a 350 to gain some performance. Would be nice to know if it has an aftermarket camshaft.
If you take a picture of the transmission oil pan we should be able to tell you if it is a TH350 or TH400.
Have you tried adjusting the idle mixture screws to see if the idle will stabilize to see if you can bring base idle speed down?

From looking at the transmission pan it is a THM 350. I just ordered new head gaskets, so will start it again tomorrow. The springs have an inside coil and the push rods appear to have a brass plating. if you pull the timing cover is there always a stamped number to indicate the cam? IThere was on my BB engine. If so I may pull the timing cover along with one head to see what is in there this winter. I haven’t done any thing with the carb. I am only familiar with Holley cards. I will check the timing and check the air/fuel mixture screws tomorrow after I get the valve covers on and engine warmed up.

Most Fridays I am at the "Treasure Chest" (TC) from approximately 10 to 3:30. Tomorrow only from 10-1.
Look forward to seeing car, we can also see if I have an extra hood that is usable.
Having roll-off delivered to dispose of "stuff" Parting out several Suburbans, plus accumulated metals!
Still trying to get my winter car storage organized and done. Trailblazer, Camaro and Corvette need to end up there, and both plows out and mounted, etc.
Fall servicing of the John Deeres is nearly complete The 530 is done, mower switched to blower, 580 getting serviced now.
MITCH-I am told the Tiller for the 530 will fit your 540, sooo, you are covered this spring.
