I see there are different options for valve cover gaskets. Since doing the UV leak test, I have notice one of the valve cover gaskets is leaking. If I remember correctly, I used the standard valve cover gaskets. I have the original valve covers, If the make a difference. I see one venders offers a standard, a thick, and a rubber with steel inserts. The bolts with the retainers are quit tight, maybe I tighten them two tight. I didn't using any kind of sealer when I installed them. Is there a certain procedure for tightened the bolt and a recommended torque?

If you have cork gaskets, they are going to leak over time and tightening them only seems to make it worse, as it squeezes the gasket out of position. I use Fel-Pro rubber and the set with the steel insert seems to be getting very popular now. I haven't tried them yet.
I just ordered a set of cork blend gaskets with steel insert for the engine going in the Camaro. Be a while before I know if they work...

I have the old cork, installed aboud 2006, looks like lots of options at summit. I was considering these as they have the locating tabs like original gaskets. Thinking the rubber/cork composite might not require re-torque.
chevrolet What is the name or the cork/rubber bend with steel inserts?

Probably the second link, if you want the steel core.
Mine are for sbc, so I don't have a direct reference.

Well I decided to go with the cork gasket, I painted it with about 3 coats of silver on both sides. Then I put a couple of coats of the Indian head gasket stuff on the valve cove and one side of the gasket. I made sure the head was clean and dry. Torqued to 80 in lbs.
So I have put about 100 miles on the car since then along with letting it run for 20 Min a couple of times in the garage. No leaks anywhere , so the leak must have been coming from the passenger side valve cover. I left drivers side alone as no leaks appeared on that side.
Wish I had done this 10 years ago. Underdash AC I installed last fall still blowing cold air. We'll know for sure in June or July.
