I'm looking at a used 2007 Chevy Silverado LTZ for a bigger truck, and wondering if anyone has any good/bad knowledge about that year? I think some of you had a truck of this vintage.
It does have close to 200K miles, so biggest concern is transmission life and if the LS engine needs a rebuild. It's hard to find a good used mostly rust free truck with less than 200K miles for uner $10K these days!
It's a fully loaded crew cab with the 5.3 and 4x4, so a nice truck other than the miles.

Which body style? I think there was some overlap in 2007 between the 2 body styles with the earlier being called a 2007 "Classic" (not sure if that included 1500s though)
I think 2009 was the first year of the 6-speed auto, which is a much better trans. 2007 still used the 4L60 which is weak, but pretty cheap to rebuild ($1000-1200) compared to the 6 speed ($2500+)
The 2007-2013 body style box sides rust really bad, but if you get one that isn't rusty you can keep it that way by taking the taillights out and washing the dirt out above the wheel arches. I squirt used motor-oil onto mine also as an extra measure. I do this once every spring and fall. (Thanks to Mitch on the taillight removal tip... I had been removing the body plugs and washing it through those, but taillights is way easier and you don't get cold water running down your arms )

LTZ is typically new body style. I would be more worried about it needing the active fuel managment lifters replaced. Very common failure in the newer LS engines. Cylinder heads have to be removed to replace lifters on all LS engines.

Stopped by to look at it, and it sold last night. Sounded like a pretty clean truck other than a few small dents.
Thanks for the info so far. I learned something about LS lifter replacement Chris P.

Any thoughts on the Avalanche model? https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/ctd/d/grandy-2007-chevrolet-avalanche-3lt-z71/6836874415.html
At first I thought the cover would get in the way, but the way these pics show it, it makes more sense to me for hauling stuff.

I've never cared for an Avalanche as a truck, but if the hauling configuration suits your needs, it should the same as a Silverado.
Have your bud's down in the KC area watch for a clean truck from down there. They can't be as rusty as stuff up here...

Yep, the VP of the Chevelle club there has a dealer's license so thought about giving him my wish list and keeping an eye out for me.
The Colorado I have now came from there, and is super clean for a 14 year old truck. Although...I noticed some surface rust on the frame and under the tailgate that started after two winters here now.

Yep, my 2011 came from 110 miles north and was really clean. I need to get after the surface rust starting on the underside of mine this summer too.
