I was talking to a guy who is so stuck in old engine design it made me sick.
He tells me the secret to build what he called a 500HP engine back in the day.
Now please tell me what you honestly think his combo would make.
327 with .060 bore 12.0-1 pistons
Camel back heads ported and polished with 2.02 valves
Duntov 30-30 solid lifter cam
2x4 tunnel ram intake
Dual point dist.
I just smiled and walked away shaking my head, no need to even go there.

Dad's camaro still has the Duntov 30-30 cam. Sounds pretty mean, but has no torque at all. With 3.31 gears, it won't even scratch the tires off the line. It works pretty good from 5k to 8k though!

And that is exactly where that cam is designed to run. The 302's that ran on the road race courses did put out 465-500 hp at high rpm, but not with the Duntov. They had an even more aggressive road race cam.
The 327 set up as a high winding race motor could have 500 hp, but no torque. Not exactly what people are looking for in a street motor anymore, but it IS old school hp, baby !!!
