I have been helping a friend tighten up the "loose" steering on his 78 Corvette. He mentioned that he is always steering the car, and it didn't seem to track straight.
We replaced many worn parts today including all of the tie rod ends, the idler arm, and replaced the front wheel bearings.
I attatched some photos of the rag joint I pulled out as I've never seen one this bad. Seems it hadn't been steering via the rubber disc for some time, just banging off the pins.
This thing should handle amazing when we are done. I was hoping for a test ride today but we found more problems than we had parts for. Nice day to work in the shop with the doors open!
I can't remember, does this year still have a P S slave mount on the frame ? They are famous for flexing and cracking from the strain of turning the wheels at a dead stop.
Don't ya love all the room under a 'vette ? we have one in the shop that I got to reassemble the entire front clip on after 3 other people in the shop took parts off it to try to straighten the frame. What a nightmare puzzle that was.

Ball joints seemed good but to be honest there was so much slop up front it was tuff to tell. We will replace these known bad parts and check the ball joints again when we're done.
I didn't have to climb under the car once. His car so he did the dirty work!
It does have the PS slave, I will take a look at that too. Thanks.
